The Last Bear

Such a good book. Hard hitting at times. April’s love for the polar bear is so heartwarming. This book delves into global warming and climate change. Also into the protection of our planet and animals. The icy scene is set well and you really feel like you are right there with April and the bear. This is a great book for kids to show them the affect we are having on this planet and the little things we can do to help. It is well written and I would highly recommend it. Just prepare for your heart strings to be tugged at the end.

I shed a tear, I love Nordic countries, and polar bears are my mom's favourite animals. Such a great middle grade story.

Oh this was absolutely beautiful. Such a delightful story about a girl and a polar bear.

This book is aimed at YA however it's an enjoyable read for all ages. It also carries a very poignant message. The topics explored will hopefully inspire all readers as much as I have been. Climate change, grief, protecting our animals and our planet, just to name a few.

The illustrations were an absolute delight and I especially enjoyed them as I haven't read many illustrated books.

I was recommended this book by my friend Sam and I'm so thankful to have read it. I didn't even realise there was a follow up however I'm about to read that one next.

Overall a truly compelling book that will tug on your heartstrings and open your mind.

Children’s book. Written from a privileged viewpoint, not really accessible for our children. Not sure about the accuracy of the wildlife aspect.

I listened to this on Libby.

I enjoyed the story of April moving with her father to the Antarctic; her self-exploration of the island; meeting Bear, and how everything else unfolds within that story.

It was interesting to see the relationship between April and her father; and how grieving effects other people in your life. In this case, the father slacking his daddy duties towards his only daughter. I did had a moment, where I thought "how could he do that to his own daughter?".

Anyway I think I like to try the second book [b: Finding Bear|166999282|Finding Bear|Hannah Gold|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1702997248l/166999282._SY75_.jpg|144621735] to see the relationship get better between them and If April can find Bear again.
