After a very traumatizing summer that isn't quite over Sophie wakes up alone in the dark, in a forest, with no recollections of what happened to her. Her memories don’t take long to hit her like a freight train though and meeting face to face with a knife yielding Brannick (Prodigium hunter) doesn’t leave much room for break-down. Was Cal right to send her there? He said her mom would be there? What is it all about anyway?

What an awesome ending to a fantastic series! Hex Hall & Demonglass were extremely fun and exciting books and thankfully, the conclusion of this trilogy delivered! We are thrown right in the action when Sophie meets with the first Brannick she’s even met, or so she thinks, and we discover some stunning information about her family history. After learning more about Sophie’s dad’s family, it’s now her mom’s turn to be in the spotlight and I enjoyed it just as much!

Jenna, Cal & Archer are still front and center along Sophie’s side, but Elodie also assumes a very important role in time of dire needs. As much as I hated her in Hex Hall, I learned to appreciate her in the last instalment and I kind of pitied her too. Her involvement was really surprising. Cal is just the sweetest boy and I really wish things turned out better for him, he got me shedding tears! Archer was as rocking as usual but displayed a vulnerability that was yet unseen and I truly enjoyed it.

Sophie’s growth curve followed its course and her maturity surprised me. She literally stepped in Hell to save the world and held her head high even though she was scared to death. A scene about her played when she was there, and Sophie didn’t get to see it (Cal did) and I still find myself wondering what it was. Hawkins shrouded it in mystery but never got back to it, which was a slight disappointment.

I couldn’t glue my eyes off the pages and read Spell Bound in just two days (which is fast for me). Its action-packed plot and engaging characters really engrossed me and the time flew by without my noticing.

Many of my favourite series came to an end in the past two years and more often than not, I found myself disappointed by the ending. It wasn’t the case with Spell Bound. Even though the epilogue is admittedly cheesy, it brought a much needed sense of closure after the epic battle that took place a month before. I felt all woozy inside, teary-eyed and all and I have to thank Rachel Hawkins for feeling content about the way everything wrapped up. High five girl!

School Spirit is the first book in a spin-off sequel and it’s already on my kindle. I can’t wait to get to it! Its the story of Izzy Brannick, Sophie’s cousin! I strongly recommend the Hex Hall series to YA fans, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this outstanding series!

this was a RIDE
i can't believe i put off reading this series for so long bc i assumed it was a boring middle school super girly book....how could i have ever distrusted my mother rachel hawkins......wow
this is one of the only series where i have seriously never been able to predict what was going to happen next and it was so refreshing but also made it such a wild ride because i got to go into it with no expectations bc what's the point, rach is gonna fool me
just....hoo doggy

I think this was really well done, which was a pleasant surprise as I have been finding that the third book in series often seem to be pushing it a little bit. I do feel Hawkins left the door open to continue this series, which may or may not be a good thing.
I felt that you really got to know Sophie in this book. She is growing into her strengths and character. She is also learning, and accepting, far more about the life that she is meant to live.
I do wish her "sidekick" Jenna had played a bigger role, as I felt we only got bits and pieces from her. To me, she would be a fantastic lead character!

Sophie has lost her demon power. Evil witches locked it up and tried to kill her dad. Then they pull her back to Hex Hall. Now she has to figure out and fight their plan to rule the world.

This is a fun teen series, but this third book is not my favorite. Enough with love triangles already

Even though the end of an awesome series is always depressing, this is absolutely one of my favorite series ever. I love it and of course I loved this. It made me laugh, scream, cry, squeal, and cheer for some of my favorite good guys and if you haven't read this series yet, then you better. Because I think you'll probably love it too. And now that I'm finished, the series has taken up permanent residence in the center of my favorite series shelf.

One thing that did disappoint me, however, was the lack of climax and tension in the final battle. I thought it would be a big, epic battle, but it was actually pretty short and lacking. Granted some things that happened during the battle really caught my attention, but as a whole I thought it would be a lot better after the journey they had gone on to get there. It was still great, don't get me wrong, it just wasn't epically fantastic.

Also, WHAT IS GOING ON BETWEEN TORIN AND IZZY??! Seriously, I need to know.

This was a really cute book. I have not read any of the other books in this series and you do not need to, to know what is going on. I like when authors do that so this way if you end up with a book and it is not the first one it still makes since to read it. It had a lot of action in it and there was a little bit of romance but it was mostly about a girl who had to realize how strong she was and that she could defeat anything that crossed her path. She was a very strong girl. As the adventures continue.

REVIEW: http://www.theliteraturelion.blogspot.com/2012/06/series-selection-ft-city-of-lost-souls.html

This was part of the Series Selection post in which I do mini-reviews for books that are a part of a series.

Snarky protagoist? Check. Rebellious romance? Check. Crazy demons? Definitely check. Fricken awesome book? HECK YES. These books are so hilarious yet awesome, but the plot seems to be getting a bit boring. I think it's dragging on a little too long, and some things can be done to make it better.

A while since I’d read book two and, honestly, this felt a bit unnecessary. Stripped of her magic it’s not clear how our main character can save people...but with a ragtag bunch alongside her, she stands every chance.
Major plans afoot to turn students into demons, and it’s a case of working out who to trust.
This wasn’t awful, but it was definitely not as entertaining as it could have been.

I just finished reading this book and honestly i don't think i'm capable of writing a coherent review. Still, the need to express my feelings overpowers me so I must share to you my thoughts.

1. The second book was ended with a cliffhanger and so i just had to read this one immediately
2. One of the first twist in the plot was the truth about the Brannicks family. I should have realized it earlier!!! Well played, Hawkins.
3. I really wanted to see more of the Brannicks.
4. Cal and James showing up at their doorstep was too easy but it was a good surprise nonetheless
5. "I thought about you. Everyday." Team Cal <3333
6. Curse you Archer for being so charming and attractive and funny and makingme Sophie swoon
7. So glad that the characters are still as awesome as ever
8. I must tell you that I ship Sophie's parents!!! James x Grace yayyy (i would love a prequel about these two)
9. I cannot help but feel that the characters being teleported to Hex Hall seemed really random
10. Still, it was an additional "shock" factor
11. I began to really like Elodie here. She seemed more realistic and human as a ghost than she ever was, however ironic that sounds
12. The Cal-Sophie-Archer thing was just killing meeeeee. Cal is totally perfect and so good and he even heals Archer. He even allows Sophie to friendzone him just because he's so nice and he wants her to be happy. But I can't blame Archer for being his gorgeous amazing self.
13. Even though, the book seemed to deal with heavier stuff (not so much really), it balanced the story with enough snarky comments from the characters
14. I know everyone expected there to be a big epic battle and most were disappointed because of the lack of it but I think it was good enough
15. I really wish no one had died though
16. The ending was okay. A good conclusion to a great series.

Good series but I didn't love the conclusion.
