Historical fiction closely follows the real life of Marjorie Post who was the daughter of the man who started Post cereals. I am not entirely sure what my expectations were - and it was a perfectly pleasant read - but it was basically about this woman building or refurbishing properties. I wanted more about her businesses and leadership and strength of character, less socialite/millionaire throwing money at everything. I think the author did an okay job, and Marjorie Post did have a very interesting life. If you like nonfiction Biographies this is a fiction book you’d probably enjoy.
What an incredible story. Truly floored by the power of women (but I shouldn’t be surprised). A very fun read and makes me want to learn more about what women have done that just haven’t been written about.
Okay to be clear this book is not bad it’s just not for me. I think people who like historical fiction would really like it. It had interesting parts to see all the stuff she accomplished but overall I was just trying to get through it.
I loved this book. The writing style is enjoyable, ample descriptors without feeling too fluffy. You feel very connected to Marjorie throughout. My new favorite genre is, “how heiresses spend their money”.
I actually quite enjoyed this one! I started it last year and was not in the mood but a friend of mine kept talking about all of the things that happened in Marjorie’s life and I decided to give it another try. The narration was great too!
One woman’s life, from a young girl traveling to Battle Creek Michigan to cure her father of a mystery disease, to be friends of presidents, kings, queens, and other dignitaries; becoming a philanthropist. A woman married four times. Marjorie Post.
I knew nothing about Mrs. Post but I heard about this book on a podcast and decided to pick it up. While it’s slower paced, as a reader you recognize the research the author put into writing this book. I like that Marjorie narrated the book. I liked that this spanned her entire life. Pick this up!

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this and got through it pretty quickly! Marjorie’s life was really fascinating and she had been through so much. Truly rags to riches. I’ve always been a history buff, so I already knew a decent amount about C.W. Post, but it was nice to get his daughter’s POV.
My one gripe with the story is that it focused so much on her marriages, and I would have liked to know more about her charity work. Once we got into the 1920’s and she was building a house every other day, it started getting less interesting to me, mainly cause I don’t feel like reading about ridiculously out-of-touch rich people lol. I think if we had gotten more of a glimpse of her charity work and other endeavors, I wouldn’t have ended the book annoyed about her extravagance and excess.

This is a book that stays with you. It was very well written and I have to say I had never heard of Marjorie Post before reading this book but WOW was she fascinating. So much of how American's eat is influenced by the post family. I really enjoy this style of writing too, fictional biography I believe? Anyway, good read!
