My first H.G. Wells and I thought it was pretty good. Part of my liked that it was short and another part of me wanted to read more!

Still one of the greatest Sci-fi stories of all time.

Eh... A "classic" but I was left hanging t the end. I felt like it was just a first chapter...
adventurous sad medium-paced

Hard to believe this was written in 1895 and was Wells's first book.  (I had to google to work out whether there should be an 's' after that possessive apostrophe!).  This reads really well today - the "time-traveller" sits down to recount his adventure to a group of gentlemen (no women of course!) and Wells uses the story to give us some insight into how he thought the human race might evolve - into two very different species!  The Eloi are clearly what the rich evolved into - just frail fluffy people who play all day, and the Morlocks are the working class - underground dwellers who cannot stand the light.   The traveller also goes further forward to a period when the earth is nearing its end.  Sobering to think that all traces of human endeavour will one day be entirely wiped away.

I particularly liked the introduction to Wells's life where it is claimed he suggested his epitaph should be "I told you so.  You damned fools."

This book was intense! I really enjoyed the story and how it was told. I would read it again for sure. I enjoyed the way the author ended the story. He wrote so vividly that as I was reading, I felt like I was watching a movie. This is my first book I have read by H. G. Wells and it won't be the last!

In fourth grade, when everyone else in my class was busy fighting over who would rent [b:The Princess Diaries|38980|The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1)|Meg Cabot|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/419P69Z178L._SL75_.jpg|2073907] in the school library, even the guys, I found The Time Machine tucked away in a dusty and forgotten section, which was usually the best section anyway. I've never regretted picking it up.

Absolutely a classic time enduring novella. Still one of my favorites after a decade. Although, I may like the idea of the story as a whole more than the actual telling of it in writing. I admit, it is hard to read through without a wandering mind, but for me it's still a story worth reading.

like that episode of Phineas and Ferb

I really liked this book because it went into great detail about the adventure and the science behind the story. It was fun and completely different to what I normally read
