I hated the pacing of this. And I'm stupid or one of the main characters changed his name halfway? Derek and Derrick were the same person or not?

World-building and plot seems secondary to the characters' chemistry.

3.5 Stars (Cliffhanger)

A lot of things happen in this book. It's book one in a quartet so the pacing was decent.

I love Willow's work but I struggled with this one. It just jumps in to the action and I felt like I was missing something.

There is a particular character's death that is instrumental and it was very glossed over in the end.

I'm interested in these characters but not emotionally invested.

Edited to note: This takes place in the Merciless world. That means, although each series focuses on one couple, characters are woven in to most stories. That's why I felt confused. Best to follow Willow's reading guide in order to experience everything chronologically.

M e r c y!

Seth and Laura relationship is extremely rocky but their love is eternal. It's life choices that keep getting in the way. This series is just as addictive as Jase and Bethany's! Two people who hold each others hearts battle to find a way because their love will not give up. A must read book and series.

You better hold on to your hats, weaves, wigs and toupees ladies and gentlemen, because Willow is snatching them all! ⁣

The details that Willow puts into in each story shine bright in this book. Seth and Laura will tilt your world and knock it off it’s axis, leaving you reeling. With each continuing story, the characters get better. Each one has traits that set them apart, but also link them together in the dark, suspenseful world we have come to appreciate. ⁣

Being a unicorn of sorts, Seth exudes nothing but power, dominance and passion. He’s raw, unadulterated and everything you could want in your next book boyfriend. ⁣

Not to discredit our heroine Laura in this story. She’s sassy, determined and slightly unhinged. After her appearance in Jase and Bethany’s story, you really get to see her and experience her hurt.⁣

I can’t get over how amazing this book turned out and all the things to follow. ⁣

Listen, had I known this was an unfinished series, I would have never, ever, eva begin it! I'm frustrated!

However, this was great. Dark, mysterious and sexy. It read like a diary...I really like Seth and I think I like Laura, I just couldn't get a grasp on who she really is. I definitely need to go back and read some of these other stories, since they are all connected somehow, I think at least. I enjoyed it, I wanted more and due to the mysterious element of it,I was always questioning, what is going to happen...what is happening? Overall, its worth its high ratings, but I should of waited till the were all out, I don't do incomplete series

Son. Of. A. Bitch.

This is where I want to scream.... LOUDLY.
This is what I dread most after reading an amazing book. Trying to word a review to give the book justice, and truly I don’t think there is any words that will.

Willow Winters has the amazing ability to suck you into a plot so deep that you lose time... and Hard To Love did just that.

It’s no secret that Willow is one of my top favourite authors, having only discovered her just over a year ago, she’s become a must read author, an automatic one-click, so it was no surprise to me that I would love this book just like all her others..

This little gem here was jam packed with suspense, heat, passion, lust, mystery and SO MUCH MORE. I love how Willow can lead me into a plot, basically blind and just when I think i’ve come to figure it out, when I have THOUGHT I knew what was happening and what was to come, and BOOM... she throws in some plot twists, twists that kept me on my toes from start to finish, twists that had me wanting to scream, and had me begging for more..I literally devoured this book in one day. I even went as far as going shopping with my kindle in my hand.
I got some weird looks, but it was worth it!!

Seth is EVERYTHING. And when I say everything...
I mean
E. V. E. R. Y. T. H. I. N. G.
He’s bad ass, when he wants something, he will get it at any cost. He’s ruthless, domineering, and puts up with no bullshit! Everything he claims ultimately turns blood and pain.. He’s the definition of the perfect boyfriend in my opinion..

Laura was unique in her own way too.
She was smart, beautiful, and good.. she was everything Seth needed, but knew he shouldn’t want.. he knew he was about to ruin her, he knew he was bad for her, but she became his escape, his way out of this crazy world if only for a moment in time. She was his addiction and he was to selfish to walk away..

Can he walk away? Or will this love go up in flames just like everything else he touches?

Wow, just wow.

I cannot fault these characters in any way. They were perfect for each other, and when I say perfect... I mean Laura was his light in the darkness that is his world. The chemistry between these two was insane, the push and pull was enough to send me crazy and the tension that continued to build as the plot progressed was intense. I couldn’t get enough, I could not put it down!
This is a true Willow Winters book, the darker side of romance with epic twists of passion, lust, want, need, love, hate, and epic suspense! It was highly addictive and definitely a book I’ll be re-reading time and time again.

As always, Willow’s ability to weave her words into an unforgettable, all-consuming and addictive plot blows my fucking mind!

Pure perfection!

I’m not going into massive detail, but I will say one thing....

READ THE GOD DAMN BOOK!!!
You will not be disappointed!

5 Stars!

Hard To Love is the first book in the "Hard to Love" series and this series is one that carries one couple through. This is also my first Willow Winters novel that I have read and I was impressed in many ways. I just jumped straight into the pool with a mafia themed romance LOL But I love it all at the same time. I can definitely see why there is a lot of love for this author, and she writes her characters so deliciously. From the main center pieces to the side attractions, you become so drawn into the world that she creates. And I knew going into this book that there would be a cliffhanger because I had seen some of those warnings on a few reviews I had read. BUT if I hadn't know my rating would have been VASTLY different than what I put down. Because I know there are other books following this one, so I will get to see their happy ending....I just have to wait here which isn't the greatest. But I am all here for their journey.

Seth and Laura don't have the best beginning. When Laura's father is killed and since he is part of the mob, the son of the mob king ...Seth watches out for her in school and slowly they start to fall in love and build a relationship. Laura understands that he is dangerous with a capital D but there is a connection between them she just doesn't want to deny. We see different flashes of their relationship but soon a mistake that Seth makes within the mob causes pain for them all and Laura will have to battle within herself if Seth is worth the risk ....or not.

I have to say that while I enjoyed this I do wish the flow of the story had been just a bit more smoother. I kinda felt like I was all over the place with this book and it wasn't always fun LOL However, I was utterly captivated by Seth and Laura's story. Not sure why I was okay with the high school setting, but I was because it just didn't have that juvenile feel to the story. The author was allowing us to see how Seth and Laura meet and how their relationship has grown from there. I am sure in the next books we see more depths to their relationship that I can't wait to see unfold. What happens to them in this book is heart breaking and I am not going to lie about that. They really get tested here, and its a rough journey at times but you just can't help but want to stick with them through it all because you know the ending will make it all worth it.

Overall I found Hard To Love to be a stunning beginning to Seth and Laura's story and I can't wait to see them journey through the strife and hardship to get to the sweet spot I am sure this author brings her readers to.

The first thing I did after finishing this book was curse my pretty little heart out over this damn cliffhanger.
I feel like Seth and Laura’s story is only just beginning even after everything they’ve already been through and I need more of it, I’m fully addicted!

It took me a good bit to really get sucked into the story, but I have that with at least half of Willow’s books. I’m not exactly sure why, but I’m thinking it has something to do with her not pulling any punches. She starts her stories exactly how she finishes them, hard and fast and completely heartbreaking.

Laura and Seth were perfect together. Amazing chemistry and made for each other, if not their pasts and presents throwing a wrench in their relationship.
I felt the heartache, they joy, the fear and I can’t wait to feel it again in book 2!

Wow!! I knew that Seth and Laura had some history, but had no idea how intense their history was!! We get to see into their past and what they went through to make them the people they are today. I felt like we got to know Seth and Laura quite a bit through Bethany and Jase’s story. I cannot wait for the next book so we get more into the lives of Seth and Laura.
