One of the best books I’ve read in my life. A reflection on life, love, friendship and more. I cried like a baby. So, so good. Just read it.

I am so glad I picked this up, blew all my preconceptions away and left me feeling awestruck.

Assumed this would be a superficial cute dog book. Wrong!!! This is a very deep, soul renching, brutally honest autobiography. Jam packed with intelligence and most of all love. Truly remarkable.

The local references were fun but it dragged on a bit for me

I'm not as attached to my pets as Mr. Ryan I guess, because there were definitely times when I was like, "It's a dog. So it can't go into a restaurant any more because of health code violations." But overall, it was sweet to read about the little dog's determination to climb mountains and get better, and to see the impact pets can have on their owners lives.

I will admit that I listened to the audio, and there were times when I thought that Ryan was repeating himself, so perhaps there could have been some changes in the editing to change that, or maybe I was just zoning in and out.

Although the literary allusions seem a bit pretentious at times, and the author does give off a self-important odor, this book has it all: friendship, hardship, and reflection. If you're looking for an adventure book, this is a great start.

Week 5 of the 2018 Reading Challenge: A book about or inspired by real events.

2018 Popsugar Challenge: A Book About Death or Grief

For me, Atticus very much brought to mind Merle from "Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog". Tom - Atticus' human - had the same approach to him. There was no formal training - he just talked to him and let Atticus do his thing and he was a very well-behaved pup.

I was fascinated by the story of their hikes and the description of the mountains. It makes me want to do some hiking when the weather improves. I have no interest in winter hiking in the NH mountains - or in completing all 48 peaks!

Overall it was a good read although I thought the author was a little too self-congratulatory at times.

What an inspiring book. The bond between Tom and Atticus is pretty amazing. The fact that the little dog could climb those mountains is also pretty amazing. I liked the way Tom looked after Atticus so well and was so attentive to his needs and they both seemed to understand each other. The fact that they were able to inspire so many other people was heartwarming.
The out pouring of affection from people when Atticus was sick was also good to see. It makes you feel good to know that not everything in the world is bad. It was interesting to see Tom's relationship with his father and how he handled it. Also liked his relationship with Paige and that he depended on her to keep Atticus well.
A really good read.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I'm a sucker for a dog story, but this was repetitive and Tom was basically talking non stop about how Famous and unique Atticus was. The overall idea was interesting, but the execution of the book itself too much self propaganda.

I've always had a bit of wanderlust and am devoted to my dog, this book made my heart happy. It's not perfect, but this man has a wonderful story about a special bond with his pup and how love heals.
