A quick sci-fi read perfect for a middle grade audience. I found it slightly confusing at times and feel like we didn’t learn much about the characters other than they’re big sci-fi fans - your typical unpopular nerds. I feel like a bit more time with the main characters was much needed, to bring this graphic novel to the next level.
The artwork was fun and reminded me of a Nickelodeon show, and the storyline was quite simple but effective. The Ker (alien creatures) were interesting, but again I feel like we didn’t really learn much about their situation or culture.
Overall I enjoyed my time with this graphic novel, but it would have hit the next level with a bit more fleshing out.

Thank you to Diamond Book Distributors for providing me an e-copy of this graphic novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This has some of my favorite things in MG stories: a geeky kid called Tommy who’s into sci-fi stories and who unfortunately gets bullied at school so, he kinda wants something different for himself. He believes in heroes and despite his limitations, he will try to become one.

So when an animal-like alien ship crashes near him, he helps the wounded creature and brings him home for the time being. Later on, and thanks to a device that roughly translate his words, Orion, the animal-like alien, tells him they all might be in danger of an invasion ‘cause his kin is looking for him –the rebels want to kill him and the royals want to get him back since he ran away.

Now, I know this might sound familiar to hard core sci-fi fans but I really liked the friendship between the characters, and how organic their dynamic felt. The art is quite unique and to me this is a perfect Middle Grade comic everybody should read!

I would totally recommend you to read it and I’d be glad to know more of the authors’ works in the future!

I received an e-book ARC in exchange for an honest review via Diamond Comic Distributors.

The artwork is great and a very strong part of this book. However, the story itself felt quite formulaic. The characters felt like they needed to be more fleshed out. When it came to the little creatures from space, I would have liked to have a better way at being able to tell them apart from each other. I feel like this book is in the middle of the road for me with my enjoyment out of it. On one hand I liked the artwork and the story that was being told, but it also felt formulaic and could have had more fleshing out in areas.

I would like to thank Diamond Books for providing me with a copy.

Tommy Murphy is an ordinary kid when a chance encounter in the woods thrusts him into an unlikely friendship with an alien creature. The story is adorable and relatable to anyone who remembers school. There are bullies, overbearing teachers, and just trying to fit in. It is so well written that you feel the build up and want things to happen. The alien is the cutest damn thing. It is going to be a huge hit with my students.
