Reading this book was like being inside the head of an unmedicated crazy man. Bizarre for the sake of being bizarre, and I suspect people like this book just to be "different" but possibly because they are unmedicated. I was not a fan. There are tangible themes tied up in utter gibberish. I think that's the point of the book. Very similar to actual life and interactions, there are meaningful moments surrounded by absolute nonsense. That said, trying to wade through the confusion was draining. If it had not been a book club pick, I would have DNF. Sort of happy, I saw it through because as the themes become more clear, they also become more meaningful. Working as hard as I did to find the point of this book did not make that discovery any sweeter.

You know scratch that last, EVERY Vonnegut book will tell you anything you ever need to know.

A disorienting experience from start to finish. I like that.

Wild as all hell looking ass book.

Kurt was on some serious something while he was cooking this thang about an author who only can be published in open beaver magazines.
The canonical sizing of everyone’s junks/boobs was a fun little treasure at the end of paragraphs where we meet a new character.

Lots of trigger warnings for this book btw

The last third of the book is excellent, when the writer himself becomes a character- but it takes 2/3 of the book to get there.

Admitting to liking Kurt V is kind of like admitting to liking fight club. When you're 15 it's cool, but after that, yikes.

That said, great book.

What a book! Fantastically dense and difficult to penetrate. This one is definitely a hoe-scarer. There's not a lot of guidance in the many characters and ideas this book expresses. Also for the love of god don't have this be your first Vonnegut lol

I haven’t read this book since the first time I read it back in college. I have to say, in 2021 it’s very difficult for me to empathize with psychologically-damaged white cisgendered males.

Granted, this satire is a product of its time (1972). I guess I was just disappointed that the story just didn’t hold up for me today. Maybe next time?
