3.5 stars maybe? The plot was pretty good, if not a bit recycled in places--the whole first part felt a lot like The Stand minus the Stephen King-ness and minus Gary Sinise, one of the few bizarre celebrity crushes I have actually managed to hold onto.

And the whole last part felt a lot like Independence Day, to the point where even the characters were laughing about how much it felt like Independence Day.

One of the things I always really enjoy about post-apoc novels, though, are the pop culture references, so I can't entirely hold that last one against the book. This novel had a lot of them.

I enjoyed reading about the two entirely different and distinct reactions of Walt compared to Raymond and Mia, but couldn't completely throw myself behind either of their plans. Walt almost seemed like he was trying too hard to be Daryl Dixon and well, this book was missing him, too. :P

I think that my biggest issue with this book was that things seemed a little forced, on occasion, just to push the plot forward and it probably would have been fine if it had just been allowed to progress naturally.

I haven't decided if I'm going to continue on with this series or not. The first book wasn't bad and I enjoyed it but it seemed to have a pretty definite ending, so I'm just not sure.

I love survival stories, and this one was quite enjoyable. Part 1 especially,
Spoiler before the aliens land
I loved reading about the decent of humanity and the ways the characters survived and what they decided to do. The overall writing and plot was way better than I expected of a free ebook, and honestly I did like it.

However, there were a few plot holes that nagged at me as I read. As well, I found the lack of female voices preturbing. It got slightly annoying only hearing from Walt and Raymond's perspectives, and I wished I could jump into Mia's head. There were also certain passages that I thought were more underwhelming than they should have been, not carrying the emotional weight I thought they could have.

I got the first three books in this series for free, however, with the end of this one being wrapped up fairly nicely, I'm not sure what to expect of the next two. I also suspect that the author is going to change the perspective within the next two books, and I'm not sure I'm excited for that. I grew attached to Walt's character, and enjoyed seeing into the married life of Raymond and Mia. I'm especially worried that the author will continue to write the story from singularly male perspectives, which I'm sorry, but I'd be a tad upset if such were to be the case.

SpoilerStarts out as a good apocalyptic story, and then as a bonus you get aliens! I wish I liked Walt more, but I guess this makes it more realistic.

This book started out truly great. Two different stories, from two different coastal sides of the country, and a mysterious disease. I really enjoyed reading the story lines from two different perspectives and how each character responded to the dying off of an entire population.

What I really loved was reading about the simple idea of having to survive on your own with no electricity, running water or other resources. Mia and Raymond's story of farming and raising chickens and living life was a good enough story for me.

Then part 2 happened. I was so disappointed that this turned into a alien novel. I would have been content reading a whole book about surviving a post apocalyptic world with only the resources at hand. I feel the aliens were simply a cop out to resolve the novel and why the disease had killed such a large population of North America and possibly the world. I could not picture the aliens in my head as the description was lacking. And the ending was just bland for me. I only finished reading the book to see how it would end.

Overall, I feel it was a very disappointing book and I am glad it was free.

It started off really good but a little over halfway through, it got really boring and tedious. I honestly could t bring myself to finish it.

It started off slow, but picked up half way through. I liked the story, although I feel like the plot could have been a bit more complex. Despite that, it was a decent read. If you enjoy post apocolytic and dsytopians then I would recommend this novel.

I got a kick out of it and will read the next one in the series and see where it leads.

I was expecting much from this book but it's heart breaking and despairing.
