This book is a fabulous entry into the Bosch saga. I really was able to sink into the details of the story/character. He’s a character it took me awhile to warm up to, however I really think he’s worth it. The action starts off slow paced, but it sure does have moments of great set pieces.
‘His skull made a sound like a water balloon breaking and the iron beam hummed like a tuning fork. He dropped to the ground like a bag of wet laundry.’
When I read that last part about the laundry literally laughed out loud! The action picks up considerably near the end of the book and this snippet is taken from there. It was quite unexpected but welcomed.
It is also nice to get background about Bosch’s wife and a glance into their relationship.
Well worth 5 stars !

Another great instalment of this series. I was thrown at first by the first person narration but I soon got use to it and actually think the reader gets to understand how Harry Bosch ticks!

This book was filled with twists and turns. Every character had secrets it seems, and some of those secrets were worth killing over. It took awhile but it all came together in the end.

Every now and then I seem to have the need to read a detective novel, and Michael Connelly often hits the spot. This book has its hero, retired detective Harry Bosch, as its narrator. This slightly hard-boiled character finds an old unsolved case has got under his skin, but in post 9/11 America, he finds himself in serious conflict with the FBI who warn him off in no uncertain terms. By the end, so many disparate threads had been introduced I had a job keeping up, and it seemd to have as many special effects as a James Bond movie. A good enough read, but a book I was happy enough to come to the end of.

2016 reading list: a book recommended by a family member.

An entertaining police procedural read - 4*

It did not take me five months to read this book; this book was shelved from September 2015 to February 2016. I like to shelve the next book in the series so I remember which one's next.

I really enjoyed this story. The love story subplot I didn't particularly enjoy because it just distracted from the case and the ending - what is actually going on, Eleanor?! I loved the idea of the title the 'Lost Light' and I liked the idea that Harry is now a private investigator.

I wouldn't give it 5* because it doesn't have the 'zing' that previous books in the series (such as Concrete Blonde) had. I don't know what was missing but something was...

I will be continuing this series... to the Narrows!
