When I first started reading this book, I didn't know if I was going to love it or not. But as I continued to read it, I actually started to love it. Like, love it a lot. The world was different from any other fantasy/science fiction novel I've read, and now I wanna get all of the books in this series so I can read them all-and never want to leave this world of Orbona.

Normally around this part I'll sum up the book in bits and pieces about what happened in the book and all, but I just can't do that because I wanna talk about the artwork-the most beautiful artwork I've ever seen before. Ever. In the beginning of each chapter there's a huge piece of artwork and they are so beautiful. Even in some of the chapters there's little pieces of artwork hidden in there, like the Eva Eight tree that I tweeted and instagrammed about, calling it weird but beautiful at the same time.

Basically, this book is about Eva Nine's journey on the ship the Bijou with Hailey and Rovender to the human city of New Attica, where something just didn't feel right to her at all-there were no aliens on the planet, only humans, and the leader of the New Attica, Cadmus Pryde, is up to something...but Eva dosen't even know what...until she met her "sister" Eva Eight who was older than her and the two escape, finding more aliens and helping them break out of New Attica to the Wondering Forest, where Cadmus thinks that the generator is, but actually the generator is a spirit called Mother who turns Eva's sister into a tree..

BUT before all of that....

They crash-landed in the Wandering Forest, where they took one of Rovender's old clanmate back home to his village, but they didn't because they both captured Eva Nine and Eva Eight, and they used the truth bird to get her to tell the truth (which Eva does anyway) and then they used it on Rovender, who was basically the old leader's son (but they kept calling him a "ghost" as if he was dead or something) and the two reunited. Awe.

The ending...oh dear lord the ending....it made me mad when Lacus ate his sister. I mean, opened his big mouth and just ate her. But I'm glad Eva Nine escaped before she got eaten, and now I wanna read the third book and the first book (blame library for not having all of the books). But I really do love this book a lot and I do recommend it!!

Over the course of my life, this series of books has continued to defend it's position at the top of my favorites list. I absolutely LOVE the world building and the environment Eva Nine lives in. Her world is a completely transformed Earth, and her exploration through this unknown territory had me gripping to every single word.

Eva herself is a highly likeable character. Although young and inexperienced, she isn't frustratingly ignorant and learns from her mistakes. Her consistent empathy and love for those she comes across through her journey is a breath of fresh air, yet she doesn't come across as an unreasonable saint. A beautiful young woman on a path to change the world, Eva Nine is a rare example of a female protagonist that has few faults as a written piece of brilliance.

The creatures that live in this series are unlike any I have seen in any other media. Far from just taking easy inspiration from other mystical beings, WondLa offers a world of completely new beings that the reader can enjoy with exceptionally crafted artwork. The world presented in this series is something incredibly different than anything I've read before, and this book will forever hold a special place in my heart

I just love this series.

NOTES:
-reread
-wowowow my thoughts haven't completely organised themselves as its 1:30 am and I've literally just finished reading but tell me why I enjoyed this book so much more than its former.
-The story was so much more developed and the world felt very real and complete compared to the first book.
-The writing seemed soooo much better in this book and I don't really know why. It got really deep and philosophical in some parts and I loved it!
-Eva Nine is a pretty well written character if you ask me and although the illustrations make her look 16 she is a believable 13 year old (she gets angry and irrational at times and learns gradually from the beings around her). Her growth is very realistic and touching.
-Again, the illustrations are gorgeous and I can't get enough of them.
-There are ,I feel, some questionable elements like Eva and Hailey's relationship which I'm not 100% happy with and the rushed ending which wasn't a dealbreaker but did feel quite wasted.
-This sequel made me feel so many things which I was not expecting, lemme rant for a lil' bit: Hailey is such a great character and I was so mad at Eva for being so horrible he literally almost sacrificed his life for you and you still don't forgive him like what??. Rovee is my favourite character his backstory is so sad and the bit in Faunas had me in my feels. The Arsian siblings are so interesting and unique I love them as a concept and the character design is priceless. OMG EVA EIGHT IS SO SELFISH AND I HATE HER. The End.
-Overall this book was extremely enjoyable and although it isn't the strongest this series has come on in leaps and bounds since the first. I am very excited to read the last (for the first time!!)

TBA

As full of glorious illustrations as the first book. The plot was slightly predictable in some places, but overall a good read. Now begins the wait for the next book in the series...

4.5 stars.

In a year of mixed, reader-feelings and borderline slumps this book came to my rescue.
FOR REAL!

Oh. My. GAWD!!!! I can’t believe this book! The first half starts out slow and keeps the characters in one location more-or-less, but as soon as that second half hits sh*t goes down! I was not expecting the sequel to be better than the first one so I was left stammering and at a loss when serious Karen-drama broke through my defenses and began tearing at the silk curtains of my emotions.

Not to mention one of the freakiest villains I’ve ever read about…ever. Was totally not expecting, well, anything at all from that particular character.

I also totally forgot about The Wizard of Oz allegory until they reach a certain city and things play out much like The Wizard of Oz except on a much more sinister level.

Very rarely have I read a sequel that just outdoes its predecessor. I really loved the first book—and if the first book is love then this second one is pure devotion from me. It doesn’t matter if science fiction or middle grade aren’t your cup of tea. I highly recommend this trilogy to anyone and everyone who enjoys getting attached to characters and being wrung dry by their feelings.

Also, this trilogy has some great philosophy for kids and adults alike. Please read these. They are just plain good.
