Obviously I know the ending of this book as I have seen many adaptations, but this was the first time I had read the original! I think everyone should read this book, no matter the season.

Finally read this! Just as when I read Frankenstein earlier this year, it was fun to note the things that don't really make their way into the popular, simplified retellings-- the parade of ghosts outside the window, the bizarre and unsettling appearance of the ghost of Christmas past. . . in fact just all the ghosts, in general, are much stranger in the book than you see represented elsewhere.
And Tiny Tim? There's nothing assuring us he lives any longer in "our" timeline. It's entirely possible he just has a slightly more pleasant, but still short, life.
And speaking of short, this story is not nearly as long as you might guess from picking up a hard copy. Every edition I've come across is padded with extras of some sort. I don't wanna say it's filler, but it does seem to be in keeping with Dickens' spirit to find a way to charge a novel-sized price for a novella-sized story.
Anyway, it's hard to find anything new and interesting to say about a 150-year-old classic and I'm not about to try here. It's the perfect book to read over the night or two before Christmas and that's exactly what I enjoyed doing!

This is the first time I’ve ever read “A Christmas Carol” and I can’t believe it’s taken so long. I’ve seen Mr. Magoo, the Muppets, and Bill Murray take it on. But you really owe it to yourself to read the 100 or so pages that Dickens actually wrote.
Five stars, because I could easily read this once a year.
