Um livro fabuloso que nos mostra como, por vezes, encontramos o nosso caminho apenas depois de tomarmos o caminho errado.

Hippie is a slow burner by world famous author Paulo Coelho. I never could have imagined that the author of 'Alchemist' lives such a beat life when he was young.
Hippie is the sort of book that you snuggle with in bed before you're going to sleep. It makes you comfortable with the characters and rather than focusing on the plot it focuses more on the life lessons that the characters learn throughout the book. Yes, it is a philosophical book with lots of philosophical allusions, but they're subtle and done very well.
The writing flows seamlessly and it never makes you question Coelho's word choice or narrative. In fact, the writing flows so well that you can't stop finishing one chapter after the other.
Albeit, for those who don't like slow burners or character driven books, i would suggest that you steer away from this one.
All in all, i finished the book in 3 days and really enjoyed it. In the end, the journey is definitely worth it. This book will make you want to travel the world!

I read this on a whim over the weekend, hoping it would combine Coelho's search for self with some history and travelogue. To answer my hope: it's a whole lot of search for self and not enough history or travelogue for me. Coelho continues to be his meandering spiritual self, exploring "self" from the perspective of several different interesting characters. It's lovely and very "Coelho" but not what I was looking for (spoiler alert: Kathmandu does not feature in the text at all).

The book is fairly autobiographical in nature and is about Paulo Coelho's journey into the past.
I liked the idea of a character like Karla, a strong independent girl with a passion to do what she really wants without much care for the world, though as the story progresses she becomes everything, but. I was hoping to get more of an insight into his transformative journey and the hippie culture which seems to be the center point of the story. Instead, it becomes more of a love story and starts falling flat. For a book called "Hippie", it wasn't much about it.
The ending, albeit, will leave most people satisfied, and I guess that is one of the reasons I don't completely dislike the book.
On another plus side, it does give you a lot of stuff to google about later hehe.
