Why do I do this? I could tell immediately that this was going to be infuriating. It’s heavy-handed and preachy, with stiff, unnatural language and senseless dialogue. What robot of a teenager has really said “It’s sad that so many of our senior citizens are ignored or shoved into rest homes unnecessarily. Many still have a lot to offer.” The sentiment is valid, but the wording is 100% PSA. Also, no one who has ever actually worked with children would call a group of thirty six-year-olds “angels.” Adorable, yes, but chaotic at best. On the subject of unrealistic things, aside from a fully adult man in law enforcement pretending to be a teenager in order to get closer to the seventeen-year-old girl he’s crushing on (yikes), what high school offers Mythology, Cooking, and Community Service as your main classes three times a week? Maybe going to an nyc public school without suburban myths like “home ec,” “wood-shop,” and having pools and sports fields has kept me out of the loop, but that seems like a fantasy.

Furthermore, I tend to believe that there are many different types of strength, and a heroine doesn’t have to be a trained assassin to be fierce (though I love those books too). Maggie, however, has absolutely no redeemable qualities—she’s painfully moronic and spineless, refusing to stand up for herself or use common sense in even the most basic situations, as well as being moralizing and childish. She behaves completely illogically—a child who has been supposedly making her own meals since the age of three should have at least some street-smarts, especially in a neighborhood where two young women have just been murdered???? And yet she walks around weak and half-starved with no phone and no weapons, sitting alone in a sketchy park at midnight and refusing an escort home. All of the danger was cartoonish and avoidable. After she went along with her douchebag of an ex-boyfriend proclaiming to the guy she liked that they were back together for absolutely NO REASON I could not continue on. After reading reviews that indicate she is one of those characters who decides to leave safety despite knowing she’s in mortal peril and has no way to defend herself, I feel justified in my disgust. All of this is not to mention the self-righteous slut-shaming and overall completely black-and-white, unrealistic depiction of sex, drugs, and alcohol.

Awesome! I loved everything about this book - from the eventful plot to many great characters. There were many touching scenes, as well as brutal and dangerous ones.I went through all kinds of emotions reading it and I would recommend the book first of all to those lucky teenagers with good parents so that they would be able to value their love, care, normal clothes and food and try to love and respect them more.
I hope that we'll meet Maggie and Seth in the next books featuring Cole and Booker.
Excellent book - highly recommended!!!

I really did like this book, but there were just a couple things that wouldn't let me give it a higher rating. The love story is swoon worthy, but very insta-love. The whole story moves a bit fast, and is really unrealistic. However, for what it is, it's really a good story. I loved the whole detective aspect, with the bad guys mystery. For a $.99 book, I can't complain. It was a good read!

Can I just say I absolutely loved Seth? And Booker? And Cole? I'm talking mad, hard-core loved. The way they all cared about Maggie was so sweet and cute and awesome.

Seth was completely and utterly adorable in every way possible. Okay? Okay. He's probably one of my favorite male love-interests ever, I just loved his character so much. He needs to exist in real life so I can hug him. And sit him in the corner of my room so I can stare at him all day. (Does that make me crazy? Yes? I'm strangely okay with this.)

Booker was probably one of my favorite things about this book. He was so annoyingly-big-brotherly to Maggie, and their interactions were so hilarious. I loved their teasing banter back and forth, so it pretty much made the book for me. I'm really looking forward to reading his story.

Cole I loved too because he was so caring, but I honestly felt he was a little under-developed in this book. He's portrayed as a doting, compassionate doctor, but we don't know his life story very well. We see so little of him and I don't feel like I really know him.

Overall, I thought this was a really good book. It does have some drawbacks for me personally, but it doesn't take away from the quality of the book in the least. This was a heart-breakingly beautiful story and I truly enjoyed reading it.

The few times I'd Run into her in the hallway, my tongue had swollen to the size of a small whale, essentially blocking off oxygen supply to my brain -Seth

Unlovable was a story that I don’t even know where to start with, it is incredible, amazing, perfect, super, and completely LOVABLE.

Maggie Brown has convinced herself she truly is unlovable, and why shouldn't she believe that, her always drunk mother reminds her of it every day. Of course there is Seth..Seth Mr.Popular at Port Fare High..but he couldn't possibly love Maggie..could he?

Seth Prescott is an undercover cop, his current job? Attend Port Fare High, and get close to Maggie and find out if her mom knows anything about the current drug rates going up in Port Fare, while trying to stop the murders also going on in Port Fare...Seth has had secret feelings for Maggie for a long time...and this job is finally gonna be the thing that forces him to talk to her.

This book was..WOW just amazing. It is so beautiful, I could not believe how good this story was, I went into it thinking it was just gonna be OK! It blew my mind! I started reading this one night and couldn’t stop..I had to stay up until I finished the whole thing..and once it ended all I wanted was for it to continue! I wanted no NEEDED more of Maggie and Seth! There Romance is one of the best I have read ever !

Maggie as a character was great, she is so caring and so strong. Her mom emotionally abuses her almost every day and yet she still loves her and tries to care for her mother. You couldn’t help, but love Maggie. You also couldn’t help feeling sorry for the poor girl..the things her mother says..are some of the most hurtful things a mother could ever say to their child. Yet still Maggie stayed strong. She truly was an amazing chick! She has become one of my favorite Lit-Chicks for her awesomeness (:

NOW onto Seth..

Seth is perfect. He is handsome, mature, sweet, caring, and just well perfect He wants nothing more than for Maggie to open up to him and let him love her and take care of her, and throughout the whole book that is his main concern, caring for Maggie, protecting Maggie, and most importantly trying to convince Maggie he loves her.
(I LOVE SETH!!!!)

Unlovable was truly an amazing story, it had everything romance, action, mystery, thrill, everything. If you are looking for a strong story with beautiful romance then Unlovable is for you!

--Unlovable is mainly from Maggie's point of view, but every few chapters is from Seth's point of view (:

Unlovable is the first of a trilogy!

I also thought I would share some of my favorite quotes:

"The few times I'd Run into her in the hallway, my tongue had swollen to the size of a small whale, essentially blocking off oxygen supply to my brain"-Seth

"She makes you nervous, huh? Must be love. Puppy love anyway." "Shut up, Booker"-Seth and Booker

Scooping up the mail off the wobbly kitchen table, I thumbled through it while standing next to our trash bin. One was addressed to me: Maggie Brown, You may already be a $ 1,000,000 winner! "Goodie, my troubles are over" -Maggie

"Crying? What the heck was wrong with me? It must be PMS! I stayed a few steps behind him secretly drying my face and running through a calendar in my mind"-Maggie

"You know, I'm surprised the three of us can fit in your car"..."Three? I do believe there are only two of us."..."Me, you, and your over-sized ego. I believe that makes three." -Maggie and Seth

I whacked him on the arm. "hmm, did a butterfly just land on me?" He glanced around pretending to look for some nonexistant bu.- Maggie and Seth

This was an enjoyable reading experience for me. I zoomed through it and was interested the entire time. I had two main grievances with the book.

First off- the romance was a little heavy. There was nothing inappropriate but this girl was only a senior in high school and the romance felt very serious for how old she was. Also, there was just a little too much romance for me personally- and I like romance.

Second off- I was disappointed with how black and white the characters were. They were either angelically good or inherently evil. I would have appreciated them to have more layers.

Overall, I had a good time reading this book. The subject matter was different for me. I thought it was interesting seeing how the main girl coped with her abusive mother. I will most likely move on to the next book in the series.

Here's my major beef with this book: I could not, for the life of me, reconcile Maggie's voice with the chaos and heartbreak and angst that was going on her life. There's a certain flippancy about her that was definitively off-putting. I mean, serious issues were tackled here including, but not limited to: parental neglect, malnourishment, drugs peddling, alcohol, murder, sexual assault, torture...etc and yet her musings sounded light hearted and sometimes even blithe. She lacked the dark undertones better suited for the themes of this book. And I certainly couldn't agree that the author's intent was to give this book some lightness due to the severity of subjects at hand because if that was true then I can only give her credit for trying. I, for one, wasn't convinced.

I found myself frustrated with Maggie's character, period. She was very strong in her conviction to stay away from Seth and yet she couldn't say no to her abusive ex-boyfriend. Zach called her Maggot quite a few times, stupid in some occasions, belittled her principles about no sex before marriage and yet she was unable to voice out her protests when he came and forced her to help him make the queen bee of the school jealous.

Maggie was such a contradiction in all the ways possible. She's painted as the saddest looking girl you could ever imagine - physically and emotionally but for some odd reason, boys and creepy old men found her attractive. I don't discount her self-esteem issues but you'd have to work doubly hard to convince me either way. There was a certain disconnection between a character who'd had to endure what she did and the actual character drawn in this novel.

As for Seth, well, he can't do anything wrong. He's perfect; too perfect that he's yawn inspiring, instead of awe-inspiring.

The attempts to add in some humour to this book felt forced and out of place. I also had a difficult time accepting that her mother didn't really mean every single ugly words she'd ever thrown her way. Honestly, it's like every character in this book was suffering from an identity crisis. The entire novel was focused on Maggie having to live with an alcoholic mother. This woman spent the whole time drunk, passed out and verbally abusive to Maggie on the odd times that she was sober. Toward the end of the book, Maggie found some letters that her mother had apparently written to her in the midst of her drunkenness. The mother in the letter and the mother on the couch were, I swear upon anything that's holy, two different characters. I had a hard time believing that it was the same woman.

Truthfully, I stopped quite a few times and debated whether or not to continue but I'm so tired of having to quit on books because of exasperating characters. The plot had so much potential - a romance between an undercover cop and a student at a high school - not original by a mile but still has its allure. Unfortunately, the flaws in character development distracted me relentlessly. I remained angry from the first quarter of the book until the bitter end. There were some editing mistakes as well (leach instead of leech pg. 37, master chief instead of master chef pg. 242).

I wish I could say something favourable about my reading experience. But I'm at a loss. Others would enjoy this story very much. I just didn't...couldn't.
