I honestly don't know why I continued reading this to completion. About 150 pages in, I was annoyed by the writing, characterization, and conflict--they were so superficial and thin. The writing seemed so juvenile, and when I finished it last night, I feel like there was a marked difference in the style (or maybe I was just used to it 700 pages in); the sentences were longer and more fluid. I got tired of the constant black and white opinions everyone had in the book, I think I was too far in to put it aside. So it's done now and I won't be picking up any other titles in the series. I heard a miniseries is being made of this title, god help us.

This is just a rehash of every single other book in this damn series. The same characters, the same goodies and baddies, the same rape of the female protagonist, the same everything. Except it's just worse, and I barely cared about any of these characters. Do not recommend, especially if you read the Pillars. Just yuck. This author only knows how to write one exact story and NOTHING ELSE

After the disappointment of Whiteout, the best Follett is back. A bit plain characters, but very well documented and entertaining. Despite the huge number of pages it's a sort of quick read.
I'm planning to read the whole Knightsbridge series. And then I will be done with Ken Follett. A good guilty pleasure, but I'm yearning for better literature.
