This is a cute, funny story that sits between The Perks of Loving a Wallflower and Nobody's Princess (which just released on Tuesday July 26). Sybil, a cerebral member of the reading circle that we were introduced to through Phillipa and Chloe (protagonists of the first two Wild Wynchesters books) is an organizer extraordinare. She is in charge of the small lending libraries that the group runs and longs for a magical night of dancing of her own, but do to family circumstances she cannot afford the fripperies necessary. She meets the premier modiste of the beau monde on accident and ends up helping solve a crime of fashion proportions. Enjoyable read.

I received and ARC of this short story from the author in exchange for my honest review

Regency cozy mystery novella set in the world of the Wild Wynchesters!

When the gowns of an up-and-coming modiste are stolen, could her rival be to blame? Who better to find out than a bluestocking readers circle, aka the Heist Club?

This book has all the things Erica Ridley does best: humor, quirky characters, and a light, entertaining story. This book can be read as a standalone, but you’ll probably enjoy it more if you read the series in order. So much fun!

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

It’s a delightful exploration of Sybil finding satisfaction in her own abilities and gaining confidence in her position in The Heist Club.

The unassuming Miss Sybil Stamper is just happy to be a part of The Heist Club reading circle. She dreams of attending a ball and has scrimped and saved for years to get her very own gown. When a thief strikes at the heart of the fashion world, Sybil’s love of list-making and the help of the Wynchesters are all that stands between the ladies of the ton and disaster.

The Modiste Mishap is a novella in the Wild Wynchesters series. It fits in between books two and three. It is not a romance, but it is still packed with the same exhilaration that the Wynchesters bring to all their escapades.

Sybil is a wonderful character, and I can completely identify with her obsession to make lists. I loved the contributions of her reading circle and the Wynchester family. The plot provides us with an intriguing crime solved in a very creative manner.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet interlude in the series. This entire series is well worth it if you like historical romances with fun, engaging characters and a lot of suspense. It's not necessary to read them in order, but as usual, I think it makes more sense if you do.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the first of the Heist Club books I've read, though I've read the books this fits between (#2 and #3 in the Wild Wynchesters series), and it nicely references both #2 and hints to what might come in #3. It was a fun read set in that world but not terribly deep in plot. While the Wynchesters seem to dig into issues of class and wealth, this felt a little bit less "deep" in that way (especially in the details of the plot itself.

Thanks to WebMotion and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!

Sybil and her team were extraordinary in this book that evolved around the world of fashion. I thought that it was very cute how each side considered the gain amongst the ton as a battle of arms. I very much liked the light heart moments of the story. I definitely loved that the book was a short quick read. I thought the book was a genuinely fun read.

I was shocked that the main character of this wasn't a Wynchester, but Sybil, a member of the Heist Club (bookclub) that hasn't been mentioned much yet, which makes me think she'll be a love interest later on...Jacob or Elizabeth? We'll see...
