briannaking's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

Any advice to join an MLM is an instant block on my social media; why should a book be any different?

This book is an actual scam. It would have been more beneficial to just publish 200 blank pages. Then, you could create a budget on some blank pages and determine where to invest your money in mutual funds or where to cut in your budget. It would be better for you to do this than follow any of the advice postured in this book.

The first two-ish chapters are interesting and worthwhile information about the basics of investing. The rest of the book is...not?

Unless you have aspirations to flip real estate for the rest of your life I don't recommend this.

I'm siding with the other negative reviews. I gave my husband this book to read. He is an accountant so I thought he could sum it up rather well. He came to me after having read it and said, "Something about this book doesn't sit right with me." I know it's not necessarily that he shares the opinions of others who think it's terrible to tell your kids not to succeed in school. Nor was it any specific advice, because there is none. It's all pretty nebulous.

He managed to find the critcisms of the book presented on other Goodreaders' reviews, which I felt were valid. The author doesn't name his "Rich Dad" and many have decided he doesn't exist. Deeper penetration into the "facts" presented has yielded many uncertainties that make it impossible for me to trust any of this man's advice.

Not that I'm looking to get rich - I wanted to read the book out of naive curiosity more than anything else. Something that is left out of Kiyosaki's world view is that money doesn't buy happiness.

It's marketed as a finance book for beginners, but it strikes me as more of a 'mindset-changing' book more than a purely finance book. After all, the author discusses a lot about earning assets through real estate and through investments but doesn't delve deeply into it at all. Instead, Robert Kiyosaki emphasizes the importance of truly achieving financial independence through initiative and through investing in yourself. Ultimately, while the latter chapters weren't quite as informative as the first, I found a lot to learn in the book.

I understand this book opened a lot of people's eyes to their personal hamster wheel and the need to make a plan for financial independence. Good for them! This book remains a dangerous and misleading financial text whose errors and sales pitches vastly outweigh its moments of clarity. There are many better books about building wealth that won't slippery-slope you into chucking your life savings into real estate seminars and debt-based business deals. Start here: If You Can

I made a twitter thread while reading the book here if you want examples of the book's lesser moments.

Excellent condition!! No marking, torn pages, near perfect quality. Perfect binding!!!

Some very interesting ideas in here. His rich dad sounds like an ass, to be perfectly honest, but it's definitely honest advice on how to make lots of money.
