Claus and Effect
By Piper Rayne
Narrated by Lee Samuels, Brooke Bloomingdale

Do you believe in psychics? Tessa didn't initially, but when life took a turn and her bakery was gone, she decided this prediction might be real. Going to see her ex-boyfriend and rekindling what was never really there might be the answer. That is until the ariport, and the storm and meeting Tre, the army ranger. Now these two are the most mismatched couple, but together they are trekking to their destinations for the holidays together. With a plot twist I didn't see coming, Piper Rayne pens a wonderful story of enemies to lovers, holiday and family. Falling in love with this couple is easy. Tessa is a little scattered, but she is trying to get her life back on track. Easy to relate to, she is a wonderful character. Tre is grumpy! Love that quality in a man, he is structured and with Tessa entering his life, it's nothing but chaos for him. These two had me from the start. Add in his incredible family and sugar cookies and I am sold. This is a great way to start the holiday season!

Lee Samuels takes on the grumpy Tre with such ease, I may think he is that personality! His gruff exterior for this man is perfect, aiding in his need to be organized and slight self confidence issue. Brooke Bloomingdale is the perky Tessa, ready to take on the adventure and seek her future. These two are perfectly cast and made this story a pleasure to hear.

“Cause and effect. Or maybe fate.”

I am so happy that Claus and Effect was my first holiday read of the season!

Tre and Tessa are both flying to Portland for the holidays. Army Ranger Tre to is going to reunite with his family and baker Tessa is hoping to reconnect with an ex boyfriend she thinks could be the one. When the two end up stranded with only one rental car available they decide to journey the rest of the way together.

They were such different people, Tre just wanted to drive through to Portland while Tessa wanted to take in the sights that they could. (I would be a total Tessa, I would love to see the World’s Largest Gingerbread House and Eggnog Fest)

This book had so many hilarious roadblocks that lead to a happily ever after. I loved it all!

Now I like my books like I like my Mexican food, spicy. But let me say for a book that didn’t get spicy towards the end this was a super cute book. I love the enemies to lovers and the strangers meeting. They had plot twist after plot twist on their trip from NY to Portland. I cackled A LOT.

Tessa has nowhere to be this Christmas so she’s traveling across the country to visit her ex. Turns out he’s the one that got away, according to her medium. Tre is her exact opposite, he doesn’t do relationships at least not since joining the military. Their travel plans don’t work out so they’re forced to work together to eventually find their way home.

I don’t have a lot of strong opinions on this one. If you think holiday romcom this is pretty much it. The characters are fine, likable but I didn’t connect to any of them. The plot is good quite simple yet effective. The characters keep getting pushed together by fate and do lots of holiday activities together.

It reads like a hallmark movie i.e., it’s very predictable. Mind you that I like those but maybe I’ve just read/watched too many of them this month. Although it is way shorter then the other ones I’ve read so its a quick read if that’s what your looking for.

Pretty boring and interactions are blah. Only one 345.

Can I give this 10 stars?! Seriously, this book is awesome because it brings all the feels, has snarky banter, a hot sexy hero with some attitude and heroine who is gorgeous and a little crazy.

Tre and Tessa definitely don’t get along when they first meet and are actually pretty antagonistic towards each other, but both recognize their attraction to the other. Close proximity forces them to deal with their differences and travel issues definitely add some extra stress and obstacles to their journey to Portland and to a HEA.

I loved the madcap fun of their several day journey and where it ends up taking them emotionally. The final portion of the book with Tre’s family is wonderful, surprising and so entertaining.

What a great holiday romance! This may be my favorite book by Piper Rayne.

I received a free ARC from the author and Valentine PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

CUTE.

Is it silly? Yes.
Is it corny? Very.
Is it unbelievable? Absolutely.
But did I love it? Yes, yes, and yes.

“I smile back because at least now, I know how love is supposed to feel.”
