The prologue starts off quite intense and it definitely grabbed my attention. However, the rest of the book fell flat in comparison. I enjoyed the two timelines between Kit and her Grandmother, but would have preferred a first person POV instead of third.

It took me a while to get through this one simply because there was never a point where I had to know what happened. The plot became predictable, but I still enjoyed the read.

almost, ALMOST put this down at about 30 pages in. stuck with it after peeking ahead a little. and then at the end i cried like a damn baby (that could have been hormones, but still). i did find the writing style to be a little forced sometimes but by the end it seemed to find its stride. i don't know. i think this was just a story that hit at the right time. normally not my thing (a little bit schmaltzy), but i'm not sorry i read to the end.

A captivating blend of old Hollywood glamour and windswept island secrets, The Lost Letters from Martha’s Vineyard is a dual-timeline mystery that had me hooked from page one. Callahan weaved the story of Mercy Welles, a 1950s starlet who vanishes at the height of her fame, with that of her granddaughter Kit, a modern-day TV producer uncovering the truth behind her grandmother’s hidden past.

Set against the backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard, the novel is rich with atmosphere, romance, and suspense. The alternating perspectives—magnified by Mercy’s poignant letters—create a multilayered narrative that explores identity, betrayal, and the enduring power of love.

If you enjoy historical fiction with a twist of mystery and a dash of vintage allure, this one’s a must-read.

I disliked Mercy (one of the main characters). I think you have to like Mercy to like the book. Why was she so interested in digging into the past of a guy she just met? Who goes to tea with that guy’s mom without telling him? Who writes his sister and meets with her without telling him. It’s really questionable behavior. Meanwhile, Mint, the guy’s mom,  is made out to be the villain because she thinks Mercy is asking way too many questions. Mercy is the villain of this story. And she gets away with (spoiler alert) murder.

Loved the Hollywood start and the journey these characters go on.
