Mercy Watson, a porcine wonder, wakes in the middle of the night and trots downstairs to encounter a burglar! Her precious toaster is about to be stolen along with other kitchen items, but also Mercy wants delicious buttery toast. Mercy inadvertently saves the day with the help of the local fire and police departments, and the burglar decides to become a cowboy as he loved his ride on Mercy. A delightfully cute story with beautiful illustrations!

My 6 year old's rating and review.

"Why I give it 5 stars is because there was such an awesome part! It was that the pig Mercy Watson saved the day by sitting on the bad guy until help came. I thought that was funny!"

Jane and I are sure enjoying these books. I picked up 4 more today at the library and we read this whole book today in 2 sittings. I have no idea why I waited so long to read them, I absolutely love DiCamillo's Bink & Gollie books.

These are cute books. My four year old laughs and gets in on the joke. He loves the neighbors baby and Eugenia Lincoln and the other recurring characters. Great early chapter books with colorful illustrations.

Another great Mercy Watson tale. How does Mercy catch a bugler? The bugler takes the toaster of coarse and Mercy has to come and investigate the smell. The high energy light story propels you to the end. All the zany characters are back again for this trip and of course everyone at the end has to sit down and have toast together.

This is a great series for kids. I think it's a fun little story too. Easy to read and a good starter book. The kids enjoy this story too.

Guided reading level K. Good beginner chapter book. DiCamillo and Van Dusen are a great team.
