Michelle Obama has a great story to tell and she tells it engagingly in this well-written memoir.
She covers the entirety of her life so far and the insight we get into her upbringing speaks to how grounded a woman she is today.
The second part of the book, covering the campaigns and years in the White House is exhausting - I have no idea how she kept up the pace, balancing one of the toughest jobs in the world with a healthy family life, doing it all with intelligence, grace, charm and poise.
I know I'm not alone in missing the reassuring presence of her and Barack on the international political stage.

After a couple of rough starts, I eventually really enjoyed this book! I’m not a nonfiction reader traditionally so that was a bit hard, but I listened to the audiobook which Michelle reads and that really helped. I enjoyed listening to her tell the story.

I'm going to leave this unrated since it is a memoir and I don't feel comfortable rating other people's life experiences. But I've always been a huge admirer of Michelle Obama. So getting this look behind the curtain of her life was so enlightening and made me love her even more.

If you haven't read this, I really would highly recommend doing so.

4️⃣ I liked the fact she talked about her father.
I think anyone should read this. I'm a Republican and I liked it. There are some things I don't agree with but that doesn't mean this isn't a good read.

To follow Michelle Obama along her way from little girl to fierce political persona is absolutely enjoyable and remarkably moving. More than once I found myself touched by her perspective. I giggled when she told the tale of the first encounters with Barack. And I felt empowered when she reported about her efforts, her actions and her impact concerning female networks.
Sometimes I found her to uncritical with her own and the former presidents decisions, for example the assassination of Bin Laden. And I was estranged about her nearly body shaming view on “overweight” children.
But all in all I liked this book and found her voice so very important in the contemporary times.

I continue to find it hard to rate how someone tells their story. While there were interesting parts to the story Michelle shares, it was quite long. It is her story and she chose to tell it her way, but I’m thankful for being able to listen to the audio book and speed up as needed. It’s always interesting to see a bit behind the curtain of life within the White House walls. What really resonated was her desire to maintain as much normalcy as possible for her girls. As parents, we only want to give our kids their best chance at life. I was also impressed by how directly she addresses the questions of her running at any point. She certainly nodded at it throughout recounting her experience but direct is always the way to go. Overall it was an interesting read.

It took me way longer to read this book than I care to admit.
