Some cool ideas and obviously the format was unique, but the writing style for a lot of the characters bugged me
Spoiler(I found it extra hard to get into anything narrated by the AI, which was unfortunate since that was the entire climax)
. The very last twist
Spoiler(not Ezra being alive because I guessed that immediately, but Kady being the one who compiled the documents)
was a great note to end on though, almost made me want to pick up the next one. I'll probably end up reading a summary online though

Really uniquely written. Compelling and action packed.

The style of the book means it is a bit hard to feel close to the characters and really emotionally attached to them, but you still get a great sense of who these people are.

Brings back nostalgic feelings from reading Ender’s game in high school, with bonus pandemic and AI-gone-rogue storylines. The graphic elements were a refreshing change of pace from traditional formats and offered so many incredible details to absorb. I listened to the audiobook on and off while reading and highly recommend the immersive experience. Looking forward to reading the next two in this series.

Very, very cool book. Would've pulled an all nighter to read it in one sitting had it not been for the fact that I live with someone else. Gotta say though, and I felt this multiple times while reading as well, HOW IS THERE MORE THAN WHAT I'VE READ SO FAR? HOW CAN THIS GET EVEN WORSE??

Anyways I'm picking up the sequel today, obviously. And maybe the third installment as well. Just so I won't have to go out to get it tomorrow.
Binging books is back, baby!

I definitely enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Loved the unique story-telling method, loved the character dynamics. However, I found myself losing steam in the final third of the book. I just felt like I had been reading the book for so long. And maybe that's because I don't often read 600 page sci-fi novels but still. It was just a little too much "oh weird AI oh god more death oh goodness must hack something!" and I was getting bored. Also reading AIDAN's sections was for some reason so annoying after a while? I never knew reading centered text for more than a couple of pages would annoy me so much, but it did.

The ending really brought it up to 4 stars for me. It hit all the emotional upticks, and ended with just enough mystery and intrigue to lead into another installment. It really was a well-done book.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and am interested to continue in the series, especially if I can find the sequel for a discounted price.

REREAD in 2025. Bumping up from a 4 to a 4.5!

At first I was skeptical about the format of this story. Books told through documents are rarely as engaging as ones with regular narration, but the chat logs made the characters come alive and allowed you to get to know them, as well as the format allowed for some of the pages to be incredibly visually beautiful.
