I just read this one, and boy it surely didn't take very long. My only complaint about this
book is that it went by way too fast to suit me. Its like I have a love/hate relationship with this one. When I found this available at the library, I knew that I had to pick it up, since I have been waiting months for it to become free for me to read. It has been a while since I have read the previous books in the series, but I am thinking I need to re read the series. When I started reading My Scandalous Viscount I realized why I fell in love with this author, and most especially this spectacular series.
Even though Carissa is labeled the "lady of information", she has good reasons for what she does. When she sees that Beau is in trouble, she knows that she must be the one to save the day. But when she goes to warn him of a impending danger, she ends up in a situation of being shot by a stranger and with Beau as her champion. He then takes her to a safe house of sorts, and where she being curious about Beau and his somewhat secret life, she finds herself being compromised and forced to marry Beau. Sebastian is leader of the Inferno Club now, and is busy enough trying to find out who is working toward destroying all that he and his men have worked so hard at all of these years. But when a charming little minx storms into his life, and they end up in a compromised situation he has no choice but to marry her. He has no complaints however, since he has always been fascinated with Carissa. But when it becomes apparent that his men are in grave danger if they set foot in England, he needs to use every discipline he has to save his brothers. He never thought that falling in love with his beautiful wife would be even more disastrous than his job.
I found this story to be delightful and full of everything I need in a solid spy romance set in regency England. In the previous books we learn about the Inferno Club, and I was thrilled to finally read Beau's story. There was quite a bit of tension and intrigue, and I found myself entertained constantly. The two characters Carissa and Sebastian, were utterly delightful. Their relationship was striking and too amusing by half. A sensual and sizzling tale of passion and danger and mystery that will win your heart over.

I got about 10% into this book before I DNF'd it. The heroine is an obnoxious snoop and the hero is a rake/spy which seems like it should make a good enemies-to-lovers trope, but it's just badly done. Not going to waste any more time on this one.
im giving this one a 2.5 because of the way the leads act. in the beginning 2/3 of the story Beau isn't a jackass, but in the last 1/3 he just keeps telling Carissa to "obey" and "behave herself." I kept expecting him to say 'siiiiiit. sit. staaaaay. stay. good girl.' I don't read these for historical accuracy, and it annoys me when the lead male (whom we're supposed to sigh over) treats the heroine like a dog. though she was no better. somewhere in the last 1/3 Carissa lost her spine and spent the last part of the book apologizing and trying to get her husband to listen to her by whining. she got annoying and he turned into an ass. not sure what happened, because they were quite interesting in the beginning.

This was really more of a 2.5 for me.
I enjoyed the start of this despite being a little lost at book #5, and read the 2 thirds of the book quickly in one sitting. BUT the last third and some niggling issues from the first parts made finishing this one hard.
I get the whole trying to recreate accurate historical times behavior thing, but the hero's behavior about putting his wife in line and punishing her like she was an ill behaved dog or toddler, was just not doing it for me.
Also this was like the 3rd book with spies I've read lately and maybe I'm just over England times spies. I didn't care for the whole cheesy brotherhood of warrior bothers thing either.
And the niggling issue, was the under current of the author really trying hard to sell the superiority of the titled men and women in this book . She even used the word Quality with a capital Q (which I know was a thing).
I know I know, things really where like that, it's one thing to acknowledge it, it's another to enjoy characters that don't think their own poo don't smell.
I will probably not continue this series. : /

Spoiler
The guilt he gave her for not being a virgin was the worst, even though he immediately felt bad about it. Specially coming from a male slut, that made his new wife meet many of his past lovers. That he encouraged her to feel bad about having slept with one other man once was just too much. Also this was like the 3rd book with spies I've read lately and maybe I'm just over England times spies. Part of the Inferno Club. This series should probably be read in order. This is a new author to me, and I will be looking for other titles by her.
Characters: Both interesting.
World building: Regency. Spycraft.
Plot: Continues the arc of the series.
Sex: Medium.
Read another: Yes.

The start of the book had a lot of promise, I was really enjoying the zing between the characters, and there was a good storyline to carry along their romance.
Unfortunately, the start remained my favourite part of the book. The further I got along, the less I enjoyed it. It felt like this was the book that tied up all the loose ends from the previous Inferno Club books, and there was so much going on that the romance got lost in there.
I ended up getting quite frustrated with both the characters as well, the heroine who came across as feisty at first just got weaker for me as the story went on. She was willing to put herself into physical danger, but couldn’t communicate with her hero.
The hero turned into a misogynistic blockhead at several points, and deserved a smack around the ear.
I’d really enjoyed the rest of the Inferno Club books, but I didn’t feel this one had a good balance of romance and action, there was far too much going on and you just didn’t really get as much romantic and emotional development as I felt the characters could have needed. This one just didn’t work for me.

lighthearted
I went into My Scandalous Viscount feeling all excited for two reason, one being that it sounded like there would be epic heartbreak and tension and the second that it's a historical romance, and I was craving a good historical romance. I'm kinda sad to say it didn't really live up to my expectations.
With Beau and Carissa already having been sniffing each other out for a while, I'd been expecting somewhat more sexual tension between them. And while it was there for a couple of pages in the beginning, after that it was pretty much over, at least in my opinion. They get engaged, married and well, it was kind of un-exciting. Beau falls for Carissa and she falls back in love with him and the two are just stupid enough not to admit this to the other. I was pretty annoyed that Carissa continued to doubt his sincerity when he gave her the most awesome wedding gifts EVER. I mean, seriously, they showed a lot of consideration and affection.
Carissa fell just short of the category too-stupid-to-live, she has a little more sense than that, but she was just one of those girls that you couldn't get to but out of something, and while I sort of got that she wanted to be involved, I still thought she should have left it to the professionals. That's what they're for.
Anyway, I mostly liked Beau, though I felt a bit of female indignation at the 'I'm your husband and therefore you must obey me' attitude he had going on at one point. Cavemen are not attractive in my opinion.
Gaelen Foley has an engaging writing style, but I just found myself rolling my eyes at the characters at times. The beginning was really promising, but the tension was just gone for me after they got married, which was pretty early on in the story. It might be time for me to give up on this series...
