3.75 AVERAGE

fast-paced

Another round of reading booms popular when I was younger, but I never read.

This was so cute! I’m happy I finally read it and saw what it’s all about. It’s an enjoyable and lighthearted story surrounded around best friends sharing pants. You’d think that would not be intriguing, but oh it was! The dynamic between the four is so sweet. They have such a strong bond!

This was really sweet and charming, I’m definitely too old for it to hit the way it would have if I were the same age as the kiddos in this story, but it was precious and relatable! I enjoyed it for the most part, but I also read Morning Star right before I read this, so the low stakes didn’t hit the same for me!!

3.5

this book was pretty boring :/

this bitch walked, strutted that runway, so that the summer i turned pretty could run!!!! so that all the YA summer coming of age books could run!!!

this book is not perfect in any way but i love it so dearly. i think this is one of those instances where i do like the movie more, but i still love this book. i read it in middle school, and i fee like i didn’t fully appreciate it but reading it as an adult made me cry. the friendship between these girls is everything i wanted as a child and i feel like i have it now?? it’s so weird because the characters are in high school but i just love stories about female friendships and girlhood and this is the epitome of that!

it also SCREAMS 2000s. this is the perfect nostalgic read if you ever just want something to warm your heart. it makes me feel so safe and warm. the writing is pretty childish but that’s what makes it so sweet. it speaks to the 2000s kids.

the one thing that bothered me about this book was the endless head hopping. one minute we’re in Tibby’s perspective, then Bridget’s, then Carmen’s, then Lena’s, and there’s never any indication of the change. i would have liked if individual chapters were devoted to each girl and their POVs rather than the random head hopping, it did kind of take me out of the story.

This was pretty cool, engaging but not enough for me to read the next one in the series. I found that I enjoyed Tibby’s POVs the best and Bridget’s the least. Lena’s POV was ok too but entirely centred on one drama the whole time like Carmen’s and Bridget’s. I don’t really like how Bridget was trying to be and act more older than she is because thats what it seemed like to me.

** this book also isn’t really about the pants but more of the girls’ summers and how they deal with their lives/drama
*** some people might be uncomfortable of the age differences in the romances: Bridget is almost 16 chasing after a 19 year old, Lena is almost 16 and that guy is 18, Lena’s sister (Effie) is 14 and the waiter she goes out with is 17 and also Effie has an american boyfriend so she’s technically cheating

If you’re interested in a summary…(below is basically what this book is about)…
Bridget’s drama: (like I said above) chasing after a 19 year old guy and she’s not even 16 yet, she’s at a sports camp and its not allowed for her to be with the guy

Carmen’s: her dad is getting married without telling her and she’s never met her to-be stepmother and step-siblings. Also, she was supposed to spend the whole summer with only her dad because she only sees him 3 times a year.

Lena’s: she gets into an embarrassing spot of trouble (*ahem* disaster) with some guy and has to work to fix it, she’s in Greece visiting her grandparents

Tibby’s: she is left behind in her town working at some store she hates, is judged for wearing a nose ring (sort of), meets a 12 year old and starts filming a movie with her, and other stuff I won’t mention in case I might spoil something

Yep, this book has a lot going on but whether or not its worth your time is up to you.

3.75 stars

I read this series twice before but this was my first time in over 10 years. Now that I’m an adult, I can really appreciate how beautiful of a coming-of-age story this is.

——

My heart broke for Bridget. We really are so confident as teens that we think we’re ready for anything.

I was tragically inspired by Bailey just as Tibby was. Life comes at you fast, and it really puts things into perspective.

I remember being annoyed at Carmen reading this as a teen, but now I’m honestly so shocked at her dad. He handled the whole situation selfishly—avoiding the hard stuff to skip to everything being ok. I’m glad she told him how she felt.

This first book holds up really well. (Except for the very 2000a fashion

I read this book growing up with my best friends, and its definitely magical, it makes you value the friends you have in your life, but it also makes you want to be a better friend.
