This was so good, so unique and empowering. I loved the fairytale feel, that type of writing is something that just intstantly draws me in and reminds me of childhood. And what a beautiful take on feminism in such a well-developed Fantasy world, with iconic characters and sweeping character arcs. This really did read like a fairytale, and it was fantastic and something I'd never seen before. Also I'm not sure why Goodreads says I've read it two times, it's lying. But I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a feel-good, refreshing read.
Reading this book for a second time reminded me how much I enjoyed it the first. The complex story of Miuko and her journey through Ada and Ana was eventful and easy to enjoy! I enjoyed how she interacted with the world, her goals and relationships with other people all added such a nice touch to the story!! Love this book and hope to read others like it!!

It definitely feels like some classic Japanese folktales and mythology in structure and style. It helps to have a basic understanding of the cosmology and how spirits interact with the world, but the story does a good job of explaining it in a lot of places. It didn’t go exactly where I thought it would, and all of the surprises felt earned.
3/5 stars.
It was a good read but nothing extremely eye-catching or super memorable. I enjoyed the characters, especially a specific shapeshifting crow who becomes a constant companion for Miuko. However, while the overall plot was enjoyable, I found the ending somewhat rushed. There was a bit of whiplash when the second half of the novel begins and a twist is introduced and several times, I found myself lost from the many character names and monster descriptions that I didn't bother tracking back to remember who they were.
But even so, it was a fun read. I look forward to other novels written by this author.

the description that this book is “cozy horror” could not be more perfect. this has suuuuch ghibli vibes, it was SO GOOD. i will admit that the beginning (maybe like 30 pages in) was a bit slow but once i got into the story i was Hooked. the world building, characterisation, the writing, it was all so well done. the found family sitch at the end was so heart warming and such a nice ending!! i just loved everything about this book, it was all just so good and i had a really good time reading it lol!! geiki my bestest friend in the whole world i love you so <33

A decent read! I enjoyed the cast of characters by the end of the book but the plot was mostly alright as the narrative wenitpicking. The incorporation of the different spirits and demons was fun and I enjoyed leaning about the world even if I wished for a bit more background about what was actually going on in the surroundings.
I never truly understood why the main antagonist was so obsessed with the protagonist which is a plot point that could have used more introduction than a "she sees him for what she is" why is he doing what he's doing? We never really explore that. Secondly, the drastic change in the opinions of demons and women surrounding the local villages and townsfolk at the end felt, unrealistic, at best a quick tie in for a hopeful ending. Much of the story centers around how the women of the world are treated (mostly poorly including our protag) and it never really felt like any drastic change or proof was done of it besides the protagonist doing this one act towards the end of her journey and suddenly everyone is cool with women walking unaccompanied when before we saw women being killed by men for simply existing. I am all for hopeful endings but it just felt a little too perfect but that is extremely nitpicky .
