Everyone has something they can't live without. I'll find out what it is for you, never you fear

Tessa's aunt has died, so she goes seeking her brother in London. However, things don't go as planned and she's kidnapped and tortured. The promise being.. that if she does what they say.. they'll let her brother live. She escapes - this isnt exactly a spoiler, since.. where could the story go if she didnt. She ends up meeting Shadowhunters along the way and stays with them at the Institute. A lot of names are flung around and I know I should have recognized them from the other books, but I didnt. It's been too long since I last read them. It was kind of annoying though, knowing that I should know who these people are and couldnt remember x|.

Anyway, the book flap acts like this is a huge romance with a love triangle. It's not. There's hardly any romance at all..and the love triangle barely exists. I figured it would be this way, so I dont really care.. but it is deceiving, misleading, etc.

I think I like this book more than her others. I never bought the whole incest-sibling crap in her other books... and I thought she carried that on WAYYYYY too long, when it was obvious from the start that they werent. This book had more surprise twists that I either: 1) didnt figure out, or 2) only figured out a chapter or so before it occurred. So, that was refreshing. I didn't really like the cliffhanger though... nothing was thrown out there like... DUN DUN DUN... it's like..you have to wait until the next book for that revelation?

I did it again. The thing where my jaw drops in disbelief because of a plot twist written by Cassandra Clare. AGAIN-

Also I love Henry, he must be protected at all costs :D

This was a very well written book. I immediately picked up the second one because I had to see what happened!

I LOVE THIS SERIES
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Clockwork Angel was clever, enchanting, and chock full of dynamic, beautiful characters who drove the story to its incredible ending. I can't wait for a sequel! The writing was so incredible it was like an art form.
I also have to say I love the relationships between Will, Jem, and Tessa. I know a lot of people don't really care for "love triangles", but this book isn't really centered around that. It is more about the Shadowhunters, finding Tessa's brother, and revealing the mysterious secrets that literally swirl around all of the characters.
It is fascinating how many parallels and differences there are between Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices. While there are about the same number of boy and girl characters in each, there are completely different relationships and conflicts going on in the books. I read somewhere that there is a reason for the similarities between the two names of the main heroines Clarissa Fray and Theresa Gray to be revealed in later books and I CANNOT wait to find out why!!!
I am also super excited to find out what Will's secret is!!!
And one more thing- I really love the setting Cassandra Clare chose for this story! It is pure genius. I love the clothing, steampunk elements of this story, the 1800s, the manners, the way of speaking, and even the way that the setting helps dictate some major conflicts in the novels! Cannot wait for Clockwork Prince- I recommend this to like everyone I know!

Everyone likes to think of The Infernal Devices as their favorite Cassandra Clare series, but for me this has always been the weakest quite frankly. While I still love the world and the time, I think this is the weakest novel I've read from her.
I still had enough love for Jem, Charlotte, and Henry to give this 4 stars anyway and after my third time reading this I stand by that rating but there were some flaws

Will Herondale, now I know he's everyone's favorite but ever since the second read I can't like his character and I know it plays into a story line down the road but I found some of his actions unnecessarily cruel and I stand by that.

the villain is quite frankly the weakest in this series and he's boring. I don't care about his motivations or if he is there at all, as a villain stan that's a huge L.

what I liked:
The Writing
Jem Carstairs
The focus on the characters and their relationship building
The World
That this continues to world build from previous series
adventurous funny lighthearted mysterious medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes
