Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward
We follow Wilder, a boy who goes on a summer vacation with his parents who are fighting more and more and meets Nat and Harper, and they have a whirlwind of a time together.
This is right up my alley. Trauma, bonded friendships broken, mental health, betrayal, creepy, witchy, memories.
I don't usually get so into a book that is plot heavy, but the characters were brought to life so clearly and I was almost enchanted by the story like Wilder was. I felt everything he did when he did.
Then it changed and spiraled and I kind of felt like I was going mad, which feels right for the book. If you aren't okay with being a little confused skip this one. Books within books within books. It's
It's a very altered story and it's wonderfully executed. I feel like I will need multiple reads to fully comprehend the scale of this.
Please read it, the audiobook is amazing as well! I was surprised by how much I got into this. I kept cleaning because I didn't want to stop listening (unheard of).
5/5
Another DNF for Catriona Ward (at 50%). Doubt I will read any more books by her. The scene in the hotel ended it for me.

This book had so much potential, and fell so flat. Three stars purely for the first half of the book. The second half was so confusing. Not only is it told from different POVs, but also at different times. Without spoiling anything, it was just extremely hard to follow and ruined what I thought was a solid setup from the first half. Aside from the confusing second half, I did enjoy the writing and look forward to reading other books by this author.
