Some of the exercises and techniques she shared seemed helpful - though for me I think would have been more helpful in printed form so I could easily refer back. While I appreciate books that take complex information and share it in a plain language shorter format (some of her definitions and synthesis of many sources resonated), I got distracted by the cursing/silly slang that’s meant to be humorous and accessible, especially 7 years later when that language has already become a bit dated. The raw milk & GMO bits threw me off too! There were a few things that she claimed were backed up by studies but with the audio book version, I was unable to look through any references that might have been included with the print copy, so I’m still skeptical.

Great catch all book on mental health with a hefty dose of irreverentism and humor. Very helpful both for people with loved ones struggling to understand and people struggling themselves. Particularly good if you are new to it all and don’t know where to start. Audio version was a bit distant and scratchy but still enjoyable to listen to.

I actually really liked this book. I loved the science explaining so much of what happens with our brains and how stress can actually change our DNA and we can pass things on to our family this way. There were chapters on many things and ideas on how to deal with or fix your brain. I am going to look at the workbook and share this with my kid, too.

Audiobook is poorly produced. This type of book is probably better in physical copy to better reference and reread important sections.

Audio quality was terrible. I'm not one to be offended by language. This language use was over the top and took away from the point. Sprinkled through would have been more than sufficient. More than a sailor? Ugh.

Meh. Too basic & high level. While I appreciate the casual nature of the book, the constant slang and cussing was distracting. Gave me the impression that the author assumes that anyone wishing to unf*ck their brain is immature and knows absolutely nothing about mental health.

DNF.

Learning that there is a f**king category of self-help books that I don’t think gets enough f**king hate… self-help books that try to be “edgy” and “totally cool” by f**king inserting the words f**k or any other cuss word every other f**king second.

Even the first chapter of Unf*ck Your Brain was horrendously PAINFUL to get through. The writing style reminded me of when I was in middle school and learned my first few handful of curse words… overindulgent and so focused on sounding cool that you completely revolve your entire personality around this entity. This book was AWFUL…
