I loved that Lyra was outspoken, insanely intelligent and has a beautiful relationship with her parents ( dunno this was just really refreshing for a 17 year old protagonist). This book was in first person and Lyra talked directly to the reader, something that I sometimes don’t overly enjoy but in this case found very entertaining. The book is centred on Lyra and her parents hunting down Terracotta warriors on planets across the universe. I do love Chinese history so I’m really excited to see where this aspect of the plot takes us in book two and three, I want more terracotta warriors! Of course we have a love interest and it’s funny/ interesting to watch that unfold. The book was all action forward the end and didn’t disappoint. I’m really excited to read book two this month, just in time for book three to be realised in early December!

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! I love the link with our history and involving the warriors.
It was interesting and kept me wanting more. It was such an easy to follow sci fi and I loved how I could easily picture the scenes. Also enjoy how brings in how time travel actually uses time and that time passes differently when travelling aka time dilation.
Loved it I can’t wait to get my hands on book two!

Navigating the Stars is an action-packed diverse science fiction adventure, full of fun, mystery, and romance. This book was such an enjoyable read. It took me a little bit to get into the story, but I was soon enthralled in Lyra's adventures and didn't want to put the book down.
Navigating the Stars is told from Lyra's perspective in a first-person narrative. Lyra's character was fun to follow, and I loved how involved her parents were in the story. Lyra is also an expert hacker, this does get her into trouble in some places, but it also helps the team in others. The romance was so cute, and I can't wait to see where it heads in the next book.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Navigating the Stars, and if you love sci-fi I recommend picking up a copy!
Thank you so much to Harlequin Australia for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

As soon as I saw Maria V. Snyder has another book coming out I knew I had to have it, so I was over the moon when I found out i had been approved for an ARC!!
Maria is one of my favourite authors and she really has a way of making you connect and feel like you're walking in the main characters shoes. Her mannerism of writing has just a beauty around it that you can't help but be drawn in completely.
Navigating the Stars tells the story of Lyra Daniels being taken on an intergalactic journey by her archaeologist parents. The story premise is incredibly well told, the world building is second to none. You can really tell that Maria has gone to great lengths to research everything she is writing about, especially all of the scientific explanations. I loved the fact that she also had sensitivity readers to ensure that she wrote about Chinese culture accurately and sensitively.
Lyra is a headstrong, passionate, intelligent and kind main character. I loved reading her journey throughout the book and seeing how she grew. The family dynamics are such fun to read and the romance. Maria does slow burn so beautifully.
“And there’s this girl, she’s like a comet—makes the rest of the Galaxy seem dull in comparison.”

While I generally enjoy Snyder's fantasy novels (The Study Trilogy, The Glass Trilogy, etc.) more than her space operas, I liked this one.
It's fairly formulaic YA, but the archaeological pieces are fun and the Crinkler Engine brings a new twist to the space travel genre.
I'll continue the series as I'm curious to see where things will go from the end of this one.

3 1/2 stars
Interesting concept of time dilation and space folding. Gripping sci-fi mystery and thriller. But there were issues with the way this society raises children that seem too big to ignore, especially for one that is scientifically and technologically advances.

This book was picked to get me out of a reading slump I’d been in, where I just couldn’t get into anything. It delivered in just that. It’s something fun and easy, typical young adult stuff and constantly leaving you wanting to know what will happen next.
It was awesome having a quirky female lead, and I appreciated the care Snyder put into portraying that tension of being in the cusp of adulthood, whilst also being treated like a child (and sometimes just wanting to act like one). The main characters around her were equally compelling and I love the relationship she has with her parents.
THE HUMOUR. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the comedy was super reminiscent of the TV show Firefly which I loved. It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed out loud with a book.
The sci-fi aspects were cool but I look forward to the developments it must be taking in the second book to grow this area.
It lost a star because there were a few sections where I wanted to scream at the book or characters “JUST GET ON WITH IT”. Mostly so fast paced, and yet it seemed to randomly slow down and plod along with much reason.
It constantly led in a different direction than anticipated, and I’m looking forward to picking up the next one.

Loved this first installment of Sci Fi adventure. I prefer her other books but still like this series.
