My first time writing a DNF "review", only to say... the MMC is just rude, and not nice to our FMC for the first 100 pages. And not in the way I, as reader, enjoy. I just couldn't do it!

This also comes after reading another Christmastime cowboy romance (Big Nick Energy) where our MMC is head over heels and will do anything for our FMC... so take my review with a grain of salt!

[2.5 stars] this was almost a one star book but the last three chapters and epilogue saved it....it had the spirit i guess

From the book jacket Local waitress Holly Dawson needs a better-paying job to cover her sister’s college tuition. Newe jobs are hard to come by in a town as small as Painted Barrel, especially as the town’s high school dropout. When Holly is offered a job at the Flat C Ranch to clean and cook for the cowboys who work there, it seems like a dream come true … except for one thing. Her nemesis, the incredibly handsome (and annoyingly arrogatn) Adam Calhoun, works there. It doesn’t matter that he loves dogs more than people, or that he’s a war veteran. No Christmas spirit can save that particular grinch.

My reactions
This was a fun read. Totally predictable, given the genre, but hey, there are cute dogs in abundance, not to mention that hunky cowboy. And, of course, perky, optimistic Holly will bake and cook her way into his heart. Will there be bumps in the road to romance? How could there not be? Will there be tears shed and hearts broken? Certainly. Will there be a happy ending? No doubt.

This is part of the Wyoming Cowboy series. They share a common romantic theme and a setting, but do not necessarily feature the same characters. And they are NOT all set at Christmas.

Curl up by the fire or in your favorite chair or blanket nest. Get yourself some hot cocoa, or a beverage of choice. Add a cookie (or three). And enjoy.

DNF...I enjoyed the slow-ish burn of Holly and Adam's relationship through the first 60% of the book. Once they started together though, they simply had sex and it would take pages and pages of them having sex.
The real kicker for me was when Holly got kicked by the horse. Then the next day she says, "Her leg throbbed in a reminder that she'd been in serious danger..." (I'll preface with saying to take this bit with a grain of salt, as I majored in equine in college) But...her leg was BRUISED!!! They put so much attention on such a small bruise, which okay.. could have been worse, but horses don't typically just kick you because you "handled them wrong." They kick if they've been spooked and even one lesson or zero lessons teach you to not walk behind a horse, so.. how did she even get kicked? If it was just by walking in a stall, you would know your horse is abnormally dangerous and you wouldn't let an inexperienced individual in with your horse...

I loved this book. It touches on real issues and was still a feel good read. Read it within 24 hours (only gave up because it was 1 am and I needed to sleep).

I really loved this book. I love a good cowboy romance. I totally believed in their love. He was kind of a jerk at the beginning but they showed you the struggles of both characters and why they were the way they were. The ending was one of the cutest romance endings I have read. Overall great holiday happy vibes.

This was a fun, dual POV, steamy, grumpy x sunshine cowboy holiday romance. Good on audio, this small town Christmas story sees an aspiring baker who does everything for her younger sister, clashing with the grumpy ex-army veteran. Sparks fly when they're forced to spend time together over the holidays at the ranch where he works. Tons of Hallmark holiday movie charm but with spice. Definitely worth a listen or read!
