I read this for school. I wasn’t very interested and I was confused at times but I think there were some really good parts.

A bit strenuous to get through, but a good enough novel. The taboo book club in the Middle East is a very interesting read and if you're a fan of the recent outpour of desert-type novels, definitely pick this one up.

Very relevant considering what is going on in Iran with the killing and Hajab wearing. The author describes through her teaching of literary books in Iran during different parts of Iran's most recent history pre 1978/9 revolution and the challenge the revolution has had in painting a picture of open vs. restrictive teaching and morality (Morality police). She gets into discussing Gatsby, James, Mr. Darcy among others, just like being in a post graduate class. This book is must read!

I am only 75 pages in and don't think I care to go any further. The narrative is condescending and disjointed. I feel like the author is trying too hard--way too hard. Hearing some of the authors thoughts on Lolita is interesting, but not interesting enough for me to torture myself any further.

I had high hopes for this book because the premise has real potential (and Lolita was fantastic). It more than fell short of my expectations.

Was told to "power through" the first 100 pages and it gets better. Am into Part II of book and it has definitely improved. Will keep plugging away, I guess...

I surrender.

this took me a very long time to read but this is not because it was boring. Far from it. I have never read something so well written. I love how this is autobiographical but the detailed and vivid descriptions create a different image to those usually created in autobiographies.
I will recommend this to everyone I know!!

Realized it wasn't what I was in the mood for right now. Plus there was a lot of description of people's clothes and whatnot, it didn't feel like a typical memoir as I expected
