I loved this book! I was a bit unsure of whether I would like it or not because I can find some historical fiction quite boring, but this book had everything I needed. I loved the lyrical storytelling, that really immersed my into the character of Eli Bell, and once a bit of plot got going, I was on the edge of my seat. The pacing of this book was very enjoyable, as it took time to really develop the world and the character of the book.

Interesting and readable in a day or two, but not really the book for me. The fact that it was loosely based on Trent Dalton’s life did give me a bit more to think about afterward.
Loved it. Just wow. Not sure it's for everyone but I enjoyed this ride thru to the last detailed word. What an incredible story!!!

Brilliant. Funny and heartfelt. And beautifully, uniquely Brisbane. Loved every minute of reading it so much I kept putting off finishing it because I wanted to savour every last line. Finished it with tears in my eyes and a big goofy grin on my face. Can't wait for Trent Dalton's next book!
