Found at a thriftstore a while back and wasn't planning on reading anytime soon. But I was doing an ABC challenge for titles and DNFd my original choice. Luckily, this one was just sitting there waiting. I ended up loving this. I loved the mix of dystopian with old west vibes. Loved the theatrical element with Theatre Vespertine. I even enjoyed the political intrigue. I liked the romance aspect and even the angst that went along with it. It did read slightly older than YA with some of the themes (think Vegas vibes), but at the same time, it was very YA in the writing. It's just an all-around good time if you're looking for a fast and fun read.

The overall world is not explained well at all but the inner world of the MC and her micro plot was really interesting and engaging! I really wanted a map.

Minor: Sexual assault
I'll be honest, I never go out of my way to pick up a Western, but since I enjoyed Kerri Maniscalo's books from Jimmy Patterson, and the premise of GUNSLINGER GIRL interested me enough to pick it up when it was on sale. And I am so glad that I did! It's completely unique in its world, and as you're reading, you feel like you're on a journey with feisty, wandering soul Pity Jones. The story is very strong, and now that I've finished it, I found the book to be great for readers who enjoy witnessing characters finding themselves. I absolutely love the characters and side characters who were so much fun. Pity herself is a great heroine with a contradictory, yet honest and realistic personality. I was constantly cheering for her. Max is adorable and a refreshing love interest, especially since he still maintains his secrets and isn't insanely stubborn. The action is solid, especially around the end, and the writing is great. I hope a lot of YA readers pick this one up because it's a refreshing change to the genre and a fantastic weekend read.
Listened to the audio version. I really enjoyed the story and the narration.
OMG SO GOOD!
Gunslinger Girl is about Seredipity, aka Pity, Jones. She is the best sharpshooter ever. Okay, maybe not like ever ever.. but she's pretty bad ass. I really enjoyed her character throughout the book. The way she viewed this world and theater was just mind blowing. Nothing was black and white - everything was just shades of grey. This book also kind of gave me a vibe of the show Westworld which I've only seen a few episodes of but I did enjoy it and this book immensely. Now I feel like after reading this book I should finish season one!
Honestly, I had no expectations going into this book. I knew it was new and had a beautiful cover. I also knew that it had something to do with the wild west.. which I haven't really read a book about. So, I kind of just went into this book blind. Well, long story short.. I definitely came out loving this book. I really enjoyed the badassness of Pity throughout the book. I also enjoyed some of the supporting characters, like Max and Selene. Max was the mysterious and misunderstood cliche of a bad boy. While Selene was another strong, independent, badass as well. These two definitely added spice to this book that made it even more amazing and intriguing.
Overall, I really liked the message from this book about Pity now liking mistreatment and she stood up for what she believed in. Pity is a force to reckon with and I loved it! I couldn't put this book down once I got it from the library. This will definitely not be the last book I ever read from Lyndsay. I want more!

Plenty of action, shootouts, and questions of morality. just want you'd want from a Western (WHY ARE THERE NOT MORE IN YA?) Couple this with some issues regarding dystopian society (fertility being coveted...so marriage-based slavery and feeling like the South won but it's not really detailed). So I liked it, but I didn't love it.
I was told this was a Western for people who didn't like Westerns. I agree. Enjoyable too.
