A very important book that I think high schools should add to the curriculum. In fact, everyone should read it. We think what happens in high school will define us forever, but it will not and should not. Don't waste your time being a bully.
My reaction to this book is complicated. The book shows the mentality of a suicidal girl to the reader, which is extremely I opening. I found her character to be believable and the set up of the book to be unique. The way the author slowly reveals each of her suicidal letters to the people who she feels mistreated her builds suspense. It is a dark subject matter that isn't easy to read about, though.
Un 3.5/5. Tenía las expectativas muy altas con este libro pero no me llenaron del todo. A ver qué tal será la serie/película que subirán a netflix.
This book really makes you wonder how you treat people effects them. It's twist and turns were shocking, I just couldn't stop reading.
Thirteen Reasons Why is an interesting concept for a book, and Asher did a unique job mixing Hannah's voice with the narrator's voice. I found it engaging and could barely put it down, wondering what the next tape would reveal. I have no experience with teen suicide but, like most significant (and permanent) choices, I would assume there are far more than 13 reasons why . . . Hannah eludes to that.
Despite the sexually-graphic content of one of the final tapes, I will buy this book and encourage my children and their friends to read it. I learned about this book after reading an article in Entertainment Weekly talked about how this book is saving lives and bringing healing to parents whose children have taken their own lives. It would be worth it for that alone, but I think it's also valid for anyone who engages with other people at any point in their lives. People have the tendency to be cruel and joke at others' expenses. Perhaps a book like this could bring some of that to an end. As Hannah is revealing some of the cruelty she has endured, Clay (the narrator) interrupts to say, "He didn't know. If he'd known what you were thinking, he certainly wouldn't have done it." And I think that's the point. On its own, a joke or a prank can be insignificant. None of Hannah's reasons on their own would have been enough, but together . . . it all adds up. If I can teach my children only one lesson, it will be this: be kind to other people, because you have no idea what private battles they are fighting.

This book was recommended to me three years ago but I didn't feel ready to read a book dealing with suicide then. I found a copy recently and devoured it in a few hours.
It was very well- and creatively-written, "switching" between the Hannah's and Clay's point of view in a non-traditional way. I didn't finding the switches in narration confusing except for a time or two when I got so engrossed in the story that I was reading too fast to pay attention to the italics of Hannah's POV.
I know there are reviews that say that Hannah's reasons and stories are unrealistic and not "bad enough" to warrant suicide, but the truth is everyone reacts differently to different situations. Just because you feel you, hypothetically, in her situation, would not commit suicide, doesn't mean these things wouldn't cause someone else to. I also don't find it unrealistic - I'm a public high school student and I'm used to seeing or experiencing some of the things she mentioned here (obviously me being a shy nerd not the more drastic ones).
I highly recommend this book; it may not be for everyone but it really makes you think, about the impact of your actions, among other things.

A friend of mine told me when she started reading this book she couldn't put it down, I was the same way. The book is the story of a teenage girl that commits suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes that explain her reasons why. They get sent from person to person that had a hand in her reasons. It was hard to read, as a teacher knowing that this could be going on with any of my students. It is very well written and worth the foray into teen literature.
This book has destroyed me.
