Excellent collection! Just the right amount of body horror (lots) and compelling themes.

LOVED this! amazing authors, amazing stories. Some felt like I was watching a Black Mirror episode, others were brilliant splatterpunk/extreme horror, some made my heart ache, others filled me with righteous trans rage. My absolute favorites included:

-Tonsilstonespunksplatter666! (think trans rage + hilarious splatterpunk action scene)
-Brother Maternitas (the omen/rosemary’s baby vibes… but… genderbent)
-The Same Thing That Happened to Sam (sci-fi story of queer kid resistance)
-Playing House (just a totally normal good housewife making dinner.. right?)  -Hybrid (written in dated log form, documentation of the progression of a dangerous creature created for the state/military)
-Fencing Chestplate (trans athlete rage and body horror transformation! prob my absolute fav)
-Gender Envy (a poem that reminded me I have no original experiences. every single part i was like… yup. feel that)
-The Divine Carcass (trippy space station god?)
-The Simulacrum (written through papers/recordings/research  taken from a failed experiment…)
-The Pearl Diver (a buzzard tells a dying dear a story)
Each was so unique, so visceral, so well done. I applaud these authors and this anthology they’ve created<3

I appreciated the concept of this collection, but a lot of the stories seemed like they needed editing for clarification. A few were really well done, such as “Tonsilstonespunksplatter 666,” “Fencing Chestplate,”  snd “The Divine Carcas,” but the majority were too short to have much impact.

4.0⭐Your Body is Not Your Body

This book is so loud.

As a Texas resident, I can’t thank yall enough for what yall did here. As a horror reader, I had so much fun.

What an epic compendium. So proud to have this, for all it means, all it says, all it whispers, all it screams.

Not well-versed in rating anthologies, but this collection was an amazing experience. A great bunch of stories centered around the concept of losing bodily autonomy and the inherent horror (and the actual horror horror) of it all. Gorgeous.

It's difficult to review a collection of short stories that ranged from extremel enjoyable to "I actively hated reading this" but even in that case I believe my problems came down to taste, especially as all three stories that I would say I disliked followed a similar pattern in terms of subject matter. so i'm coming down on the side of "i think this could have something for everyone, even if we disagree on what that something is"
