A lot of people are put off of Stephen King because they think his stories are too far out there. Bag of Bones is a good old fashioned ghost tale.

Meh. Big ol' book, big ol' Meh.

It took me more than 10 chapters and maybe 150 pages to actually start to like this book. The beginning was SO SLOW and, honestly, boring. Sure, it gave tidbits of foreshadowing every so often, but was nothing to keep me interested at all. I read this for book club and so kept trudging through.

I will say that around chapter 11 or so it got me and I was hooked til the end. I just HAD to find out the answers and the past and how everything happened. It was horribly suspenseful, not my usual cup of tea, but kept me ion the edge of my seat.

But really, couldn’t it have just started with chapter 10 or 11 and went from there? Why all the boring lead-up? If it had been shortened, I would have given a 4, but it’s standing at a solid 2 for me because of the beginning and the pain it took me to get through it.

June 19, 2024***I am going to reread this one, which I never do. My son bought me this on a whim with his own money and said he thinks I'd really like it. I didn't have the heart to tell him I had read it already. So I'm reading it again. Maybe a new perspective might change my review. ****

Still one of the best. I saw a better book this go round than the first time. King never disappoints me.

All Stephen King books are great, but if there are different levels of greatness, this was higher on the leveled tiers. This gets 5 stars for its empathy, its kindness, its sadness, its reality, its complex messaging on capitalism, and race, its questioning of what family means.
I was confused for the first 2/3 rds of the book as to why one of the villainous ghosts were who they were. Why would these people be haunting Mike? It just didn't make sense. Then, as in all King books, it wraps up nicely at the end and is clarified exactly as expected. Great job again.

Loved this book and that Stephen King narrated it himself. There were lots of layers to the story and I liked how he took his time revealing them all. I started writing when I was 9 and the way King talks about his writing process of being “in the zone” is extremely relatable. This was one of his better books, even if the sex scenes were uncomfortable…especially with him being the one reading them.

I had seen the mini series and enjoyed it very much. As usual, I found the novel somewhat better if only that it provided more background and clarity about the story. I wouldn't say that this is one of my favorite King novels, but I did enjoy it very much and found it hard to stop reading at any point when real life intruded on my reading time!

Sometimes you just need that typical horror formula to relax. I had insomnia when I picked up "Bag of Bones." I guess I knew from the get-go that it would take place in a remote part of Maine and start out with little things seeming out of place, followed by a descent into ghostly realms and near-madness. But that's what I wanted so I was ok with what I got.

Buku ini menyeramkan.

Curhat bagian 1: 28 Oktober 2010.

Hati pun girang bukan buatan manakala dihadiahi Rauf [b:Hearts in Atlantis|476494|Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, #1)|Gena Showalter|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388655784s/476494.jpg|464731].

Getting into this one was a bit slow for me. I think it was all the inner dialogue the main character deals with. The story moves slower than usual for a King book, but by the end I was definitely a satisfied reader. Worth the effort.
