Although I did enjoy the mini-series more , I still enjoyed the book. Like many adaptations of novels, the original gave more insight into what was going on, what the characters were thinking, and more clarification as to what exactly was happening.

at least that had a bit more reason to Sara's curse than just kids in the family whose name starts with a 'K'
There's a great, tight, gripping story somewhere in here. Unfortunately, you have to slog through a lot of slow chapters to find it.
I have been real bad about updating my Goodreads page...and I have also been in a particularly abhorrent reading slump.
That said...I can always count on Stephen King to yank me right out of it.
What can be said about Bag of Bones that many before me haven't already said? This novel is poignant, heartbreaking, and maybe King's most gothic work aside from Salem's Lot. It has a lot of elements that King would go onto explore in later works such as Lisey's Story and Duma Key.
And perhaps this novel is also one of King's most wonderfully written. The narrative is a slow burn, one with a lot of atmosphere and a lot of exposition. It isn't a bad thing at all. This book--this story!--almost requires it. And as usual, King weaves the tale masterfully.
The last quarter of this novel rolls along like a freight train, one that you are a passenger inside of, and that has been tilting off the tracks the entire ride.
King gets us to the destination safely. But the journey makes for one hell of a ride. Mature, haunting, romantic, and bristling with the tension of a fevered nightmare and a bizarre eroticism--Bag of Bones is clearly to be shelved in the upper echelon of Stephen King's writing.

I’ve loved this book since I first read it when it was published in the late 90s. This most recent reread has only cemented it in my top 5…possibly top THREE…of all King’s works.
A ghost story, a haunted house story, a love story, and another trip through Derry and the TR and Dark Score Lake.
Dark and suspenseful, with some of King’s best characters and villains. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a great one. It is one of my fall back recommendations for people looking to get into Stephen King’s work.
10 rings of Bunter’s bell out of 10!

Books like these are some of my favorites by King....I love how he takes his time to envelop you into an entire world with lots of carefully selected details. This one expanded past just the horror aspects, but it was still delightfully creepy. One of my favorites of his now!
This is one of my favorite Stephen King ghost stories.
Well, as per usual with Stephen King, it was a bit hard for me to get in to at the beginning. A bit slow, I'd say. But once getting over that hump, it was enticing and kept me coming back. I found it a bit confusing, as it jumped from time to time, and sometimes the "flashbacks" weren't very clear - the descriptions were all over the place and hard to follow at times. Overall, though, it was a good story, and I'm glad that I pursued it until the end.
Grieving author tries to save single parent from evil man with the help of a lawyer and some fridge magnets.
I sort of fell out with Stephen King in the 90s, a couple of books just didn't do it for me, so I've gone back to that period and read a few that I missed. For the most part, this is peak Stephen King and the supernatural element really really works. It's probably a bit long and when you get to "that shocking moment" there are still about 100 pages left to go and it really does feel a bit drawn out. Also a couple of dream sequences which are very strange BUT overall very good indeed.

This is a fine ghost story. I just don't know what else I can say about it without spoilers. And it features an absolutely adorable little girl character.
For reference, I didn't like the TV movie. A lot of the story was left out and as a result, I was far less emotionally involved with the characters.
