Most professional reviewers classify this as Grades 9-12, while one of them (SLJ, maybe?) put it as low as 8th grade. I'd go even lower; I'd say this is perfectly acceptable for 7th graders who like suspenseful, shallow crime dramas.

It was okay, and thankfully was a pretty quick read. I don't know if it's because I didn't read book one or if this is Henry's style (lack of much character development), but I didn't care about or like a single character. My experience reading this book was similar to watching an episode of CSI, I imagine (I've never watched it), or Murder, She Wrote (which I have).

If everything was portrayed accurately, (and I have no idea if it is or not), kids will learn to avoid interrogation without a lawyer (even if they're innocent), and they'll learn about police interrogation tactics, what it's like being in a Search and Rescue team, and some facts about forensics and crime scene investigations.

I suspect that my MS kids will enjoy this Battle of the Books 2020 title.

great book and great suspense. Love the characters!!

3.5

Pretty good. I loved learning more about Nick's character and this book was pretty suspenseful because you don't know what would happen next.

This book follows multiple POVs. The main ones being Nick and his two friends, Alexis and Ruby, who are on the Search and Rescue team. There is a murder close to Nicks home and the police think he is the culprit due to his love of knives and violent video games. The friends work to prove his innocence.

Conceptually, this book is great. The execution fell a little flat for me. I loved the short chapters and the twists. However, the amount of POVs for such a short book were just too much. Not to mention the ending. Like WTF?! That's it?? I literally threw the book. No joke. Some editing and adding to the storyline and this could have been amazing.

I didn’t enjoy this book as the other books that she wrote, but this was still good. I didn’t enjoy that most of this book was in Nicks POV, I would rather have it in Alexis. I have no clue who the killer was to the people, but I got to the point i don’t really care.

Not going to lie, I and no idea this was a sequel until a couple minutes ago when I went to add this review. It was still a great book and clearly didn't need to be read after the first one.
