Finally!

I’m so happy Zane got his HEA! I enjoyed the progressive of Jeremy and Zane relationship from coworkers to friends to boyfriends. I cannot wait until the next book. However, it will be hard to top this one.

He was everything I never thought I’d find. But, then again, I hadn’t found him; he’d found me.

Very sweet read with minor conflict between the two MCs Zane and Jeremy. This is apparently a spin off of the Souls of Chicago series which begins with [b:Feeding the Soul|30340135|Feeding the Soul (Souls of Chicago, #1)|Annabella Michaels|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1464914419s/30340135.jpg|50839526]. I do not think you need to read that series beforehand to get enjoyment out of this book, but a few of the characters from that series make appearances. I enjoyed the book, thought it could have been a bit shorter as it dragged slightly in the middle. Both MCs were just so damn nice. I think this would sit nicely in the fluff category as the climactic scuffle only lasted a few pages. If your looking for a light cute read this is for you. 3.5 stars

Emotional, hard hitting and so very well written

What a fantastic start to a new series! This one focuses on the men of Micah Hamilton's security firm and gives them their much deserved HEA.
Jeremy and Zane are both very strong men, mentally and physically, each deserving the good life of another. The setting and story line for this book are highly enjoyable and so engrossing. Annabella is a fantastic writer and this is just another prime example of her talent.
Definitely recommend!!

This is my first book by Ms. Michaels. I didn’t realize it was a spin-off of another series and other than meeting characters from that series, you don’t need to have read it to read this book (although I’m wondering how reading one particular book would affect my perspective going into this one). This is a decent start to a series with likeable characters that I’m guessing will all get their own books. There is really nothing new here…the story is very predictable. There were a couple of times I felt like I read the same passage more than once as the inner dialog of both characters was repetitive. There are times the story felt too perfect (like how Jeremy just happened upon Zane). Despite all that, it is a quick, enjoyable read.

Zane’s story is heartbreaking…the prologue is hard to read. He’s strong…he’s a survivor. He opens up to Jeremy…as a friend…pretty quickly, trusting his instincts to determine he’s not a threat. I didn’t blame him for his anger toward Jeremy when he discovers the truth…it’s exactly how I would have felt. He’s shy and sweet, but has moments of boldness.

Jeremy is a bada$$ in his own right and a typical alpha male. He has a strong loyal streak as well as a possessive streak when he deems something his. He’s just as lonely as Zane and is a good match for him. They have off the charts sexual chemistry and I like the friends-to-lovers angle they started with.

I may go back and check out the previous series…the characters are intriguing that we’ve met; I will probably stick with this series as well.

3.5 stars. It feels like I’ve been waiting for this book for forever. I’ve read Michaels’ previous series, and in the last book we were introduced to Isaac. All we know is that his brother has been missing and they haven’t seen each other in years.

There’s a little bit of mystery involved here, but honestly there’s not a lot going on. The plot was really slow, but I did like the relationship between Zach and Jeremy. There relationship progressed really naturally and it was just really sweet.

The ending was predictable and the reason the brothers were separated was kind of dumb. If you’re looking for an engrossing mystery you should probably skip this one, but if you’re looking for a nice romance you should check this out.

So, first off, I discovered almost 1/3 of the way into this book that Hamilton’s Heroes is a spin-off of the Souls of Chicago series.... which I have not read. A mention of that in the foreword or blurb would have been nice. It didn’t affect my ability to follow the plot, but there are definitely some spoilers for books 3 & 6.

I did find that once we got to the point where Jeremy and Zane were together, there was too much sex and the plot was just stalled for a good chunk of the book. If you want to throw in a bunch of lacklustre sex scenes, fine... but don’t do it just to draw out the story.

My main issue with the story though is that Jeremy has been hired to track down Zane, and once he finds Zach/Zane he befriends him, pursues a romantic relationship with him and has sex with him for a good few weeks while hiding the fact that he is trying to determine is Zach and Zane are one in the same and bring him back to Chicago. And for weeks he’s sick with guilt about deceiving Zane, and of course the obvious happens with Zane discovering the truth before Jeremy gets around to telling Zane himself. And then he tried to say that he did it because he was following orders because that’s what military men do, but he was lying to his boss about his progress on the job, so I guess following orders only applies when convenient. And then Edith points out to Zane that while Jeremy lied, Zane lied to. All Zane “lied” about was his name, though I don’t think giving you assumed name that you’ve taken on to avoid your abusive past is quite the same as hiding the fact that you were hired to track someone down and while hiding that fact get involved with the person you suspect to be the man you’ve been hired to track down. Apples to oranges. And in the end, Zane’s like, I should be the one apologizing..... excuse me?!

And what’s with everyone assuming people want to be hugged by a complete stranger? I don’t even really want to shake someone’s hand when first meeting them, let alone have them try to squeeze the living daylights out of me.

To top it off, the writing was pretty boring, and I skimmed a lot of the second half of this... especially since so many parts of it are repetitive.

I won’t be continuing with this series, nor will I be reading Souls of Chicago.

Loved it! Great start to a new series. I loved getting to know Jeremy and Zach. The character development was so well done that I could totally empathize with the characters and feel their emotions. The premise of the search bothered me...why would Micah take a case without the whole story? And why would he assign a case to Jeremy without all the information? Seems like a half-assed, potentially dangerous way to do business, even for friends. And obviously they knew at least part of the story or Landon wouldn’t have reacted the way he did. But of course if Jeremy knew the story we couldn’t have the crisis moment, the drama and angst.

It was great seeing at least a few of the characters from the Souls series. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Full review to come tomorrow.

This is the first in a new series which is an offshoot of Annabella's Souls of Chicago series and it's focusing on Micah Hamilton's security agency (Landon Greene's husband and subject of Book 3 [b:Protecting the Soul|33834422|Protecting the Soul (Souls of Chicago, #3)|Annabella Michaels|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1484094722s/33834422.jpg|54763713] and it directly ties into book 5 in the series [b:Uniting the Souls|36281317|Uniting the Souls (Souls of Chicago, #6)|Annabella Michaels|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1506028500s/36281317.jpg|57941953] as it focuses on the search for Isaac's missing brother Zane.

I liked this a lot, it was missing the overly dramatic elements which can sometimes pull down a plot narrative and instead, all the tensions were caused by believable issues of trust being damaged due to secrets being hidden (for perfectly valid reasons) for too long.

The relationship between Jeremy and Zach (aka Zane in hiding) was well developed and took a nice slow burn as they slowly got to know each other - even if Jeremy's reasons for trying to find out if Zach was Zane weren't revealed until the plot needed some tensions.

Overall this is really nice read, it's a sweet romance between two people who on paper shouldn't work but do. Jeremy is searching for the same happiness he sees in his friends who've settled down and Zane has been closed off because of his fears and past trauma for so long.

There is a really lovely ending and I truly believed in this couple's life long happiness. Great start to this new series.
