Red Dirt Heart 3

I enjoy these books so much. The story just follows Charlie's life as a cattle rancher in all the dramatic and mundane ups and downs of such a life. Slice-of-life stories, when done well, are some of my favorites, and Walker has developed the cozy world in the Red Dirt series very well. I thought I would be more exasperated at some of Charlie's stubborn qualities, but surprisingly I wasn't. It helps that Charlie is incredibly endearing, and the other characters are adorably cheesy in that almost-too-cheesy-but-not type of way. I'm glad there are one more book and some short stories left in the series.

Wow, I think this is my favorite so far of this series!! It just gets better and better. This one totally pulls those heart strings to the max. I found myself either crying or tearing up a lot of the time. And sooo much happens. It is tough to review this one without giving anything away, but mainly the takeaway is that Travis loves Charlie, and Charlie loves Travis and Travis does everything he can to make Charlie see that he deserves the love Travis and everyone else freely gives to him. Charlie is such a softy with Nugget, and I totally want my own wombat, like yesterday!! Joel Leslie does such a wonderful job with this series, and I know I will be hearing his narration of their story for some time. I cannot believe there is just one left, I am happy there is a Christmas short, because I really cannot get enough. Onto the next!

More tears. More laughing.

N.R. Walker is way too good at this storytelling thing. I actually hunted through my old stash of mountain bike t-shirts to find one still stained with red dirt.

This book series is like red dirt. It gets under your skin, and you just can't escape it.

Poor Charlie. I can't decide whether he need a smack upside the head or a hug. Probably both.

This had more drama than I wanted but still a pretty good series. A lovely setting and endearing MCs. Sometimes a little over the top, this series is still pretty enjoyable and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Lots of goings on at the Sutton station, good and bad. First, there’s an opportunity of a big grocery chain wanting their beef. Then, Trudy reveals she’s pregnant, but isn’t sure about keeping the baby. Ma finds out she has endometrial cancer, which shocks and worries everyone.

Last, but not least, Travis’ grandfather is dying, so he has to go home. Oh, and Charlie’s trying to finish his last assignments for his degree, while running for the board of the local beef association. Add in some unexpected events, and poor Charlie is a mess.

He does all right, though, getting his board position, watching over Ma as she recovers, and handling the rest just fine. All of it except Travis. Missing him, and then getting their wires crossed, makes Charlie doubt Travis is coming back.

Of course, a happy ending for all abounds, with everyone is healthy and happy. I love the characters, the scenery, and in this instalment, all the balls in the air that actually do come together.
