Haven't given many 5's lately, but this one was just good. Reminiscent of a Grisham novel but I don't say that to take away from it's ability to stand on it's own. Well written, great plot twists and much more believable than most. I'm looking forward to continuing through this series.

It was okay. Hard to get into, interesting resolution. I'm slightly baffled by the super high rating but it was worth a read.

Please dear Lord, do not let my boss see that review as I called in sick just because I was hooked on that novel and didn't want to put it aside and get back to it after work.

Some of the long time fans of legal thrillers and John Grisham will greatly appreciate this novel which bears ressemblance to A Time To Kill in many, many ways. Nonetheless, it is a fast pace page turner with solid court scenes that seem to lack in today's legal thrillers.
As it is his first novel, I am eager to see how Bailey's writing will evolve in the future. You can see that he will become more and more of an even greater writer and it might possibly be the case with his second book : In Between Black And White, that I will start right this second because you know ...i'm still home sick ;)

In it's genre, The Professor is a solid 4.5 leaning on 5 stars.

I am officially hoked on McMurtrie, Drake, and Haynes! I came across Legacy of Lies and read it earlier. I felt the entire time like I had been dropped into a story that had been going for a bit and I learned that while it is book 1 of Bocephus Haynes, a number of the characters are from Bailey's earlier books. So, I headed out in search of the earlier novels and was not disappointed.

I love Tom McMurtrie. A former athlete, lawyer, turned professor he is everything great teachers are -- tough on students, filled with encouragement, and always wanting and bringing out the best.

The story is a good legal thriller, one of my favorite genres, but it's the characters that make the story. You love the people and the families and remember while small towns are just the best.

Good courtroom drama spoiled by misogyny and the male gaze

The core story here is a blend of personal redemption and courtroom strategy - sort of like My Cousin Vinny without the comedy.

But a lot of the plot is ruined by the vulgar thoughts and actions of the many male characters, both good and evil, interrupting what is otherwise a page turning read. Unfortunately, the numerous and gratuitous mentions of the men's sexual urges, as well as depictions of rape, serve to unnecessarily derail and distract from the primary themes of the narrative.

If I could I’d give 4.5 stars. I enjoyed this book more than any book I’ve read in a long time. I had never read a book by Robert Bailey but I look forward to the next in the series. I had a hard time putting this book down at times. Very highly recommended!
