If you love KDramas (like me hehe), you must give this book a read! I honestly fell in love with Luca as I read along. Although it was quite predictable and cliché, I'm a sucker for clichés so what can I say? A very easy read and Luca & Desi's relationship progression will melt your heart 😍

The romance was super cringe. I kept asking myself why these two people even liked each other, and tbh, never found a convincing reason. Not great for a contemporary romance.

Pros:
*KDramas. I've only seen one, but I did really like it so the reference guide at the back is nice.
*Desi and her dad. They were great

Cons:
*Oooh boy. Where do I start?
*This is minor in the face of everything else, but where did Desi even find the time to have these misadventures? Not to draw on my own experiences, but I was also top of my class, valedictorian, running two clubs and a part of a half a dozen more, and while not doing a sport, in theatre, which is similarly time consuming. With all that plus homework, I didn't have time for a regular boyfriend, let alone crazy kdrama steps to get one
*The absolute insanity of some of the kdrama steps.
SpoilerShe put his life in danger three times and he still takes her back? WTF??

*I still can't figure out the draw these two have to each other on any level except physical
*Instalove
*Also, I didn't really like Luca as a character at all. He was alright towards the beginning, but all the 'drama' with his dad?
SpoilerWho, by the way, was completely right. He just comes off as an entitled brat. Take it from someone who actually has a terrible father, his dad was fine.

*
SpoilerI cannot BELIEVE how easily he forgave her at the end
*She jeopardized her future for a guy? Not great. Really the only time I'm okay with that is if they are soulmates and a future together is worth sacrificing her original plans because it's actually something better, but that's not the case here

Originally started for booktubeathon but my goodness this took me over a month to read. thanks.

After some reflection, I have decided to lower my rating from a 3* to a 2*.

Unfortunately this book was entirely the wrong fit for me. I feel like I would've gelled with this better had I read this in my early teens; but unfortunately it just wasn't the right fit for me at this time. I liked the sound of the premise, but unfortunately the way it was executed just didn't hold up to my expectations. Whilst it was written well and, at times, was very charming it just didn't hold my attention well enough and the characters held a massive amount of juvenile mannerisms which knocked the story down a peg (or three) for me.

This story, however, does earn a lot of brownie points for having an immensely diverse cast of characters. I also loved the cultural exploration weaved throughout the plot. It also has an impeccable family relationship (particularly father/daughter) and it is utterly charming and lovely to read. The family relationships were what I loved the most about this story and what urged me to continue reading because I was desperate for further doses of the characters that I had warmed up to so rapidly.

Unfortunately the romance wasn't for me. There were a lot of issues throughout and it just made me uncomfortable a few times; particularly when Desi went to a party with another guy to make her 'target' envious. It just made me squirm and I had to flick through a few pages. Maybe that's the British person in me and my distaste for secondhand embarrassment! Ha! But I didn't really like the way the romance was pursued and the other relationships in this book really do overtake the romance which definitely was a plus for me.

The book was written well even though it was a little tedious to get through in places. It was well crafted and the majority of the characters were a joy to read about. My favourite character being Desi's father, of course, who I absolutely adored. I loved seeing a male k-drama fan and how happy they made him; it was a fabulous twist on females constantly being the focus of fandom etc., and it was brilliant to see the positive effect that k-dramas have on people and how amazing they can be. I definitely think it's important to highlight the positives behind alternative media and normalise the idea that people find comfort in things that are seen as less conventional. I thought it was a fabulous angle for the story to take and it was fun, amusing and fascinating to read about and it was without a doubt my favourite element of the story.

This book does tangle with a few more serious topics, but they aren't overbearing and don't bring the mood of the book down. Overall the book is funny (thanks to Desi's Dad), charming and a fun read. Really disappointed that I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted/expected to! But I would still recommend if the premise appeals to you.

Desi uses the plot lines from K-dramas to catch her crush, Luca.

I loved this! It was a perfect pic for a night of unrelenting insomnia. I actually laughed out loud several times.

the start was promising. but as i read on, Desi is batshit crazy. she's annoying, know it all, and did i say crazy? no love should involve hurting anyone as an act to get them. it was an enjoyable read, one star for that. on point reference to Kdramas, one star for that.

I like Desi but some of her choices are not ones I agree with. The end does not justify the means. I don't think real people in these same situations would have been as understanding and forgiving as characters in this book were.

cute but there is a strong possibility you will end up with some forehead bruising from hitting your head against the cover so many times

also don't read it around other people, they might judge you for all the screaming
