Ahh this was soooo much fun to read. It embodied my epic love for kdramas mixed with YA contemporary romance; and honestly it was such a heartwarming combination. This honestly felt like a kdrama from start to finish and it was so dramatic and unrealistic (sometimes) and adorable I just loved reading it. Also the kdrama references throughout got me a bit too excited (I've literally seen almost every kdrama mentioned in this book... who's surprised? Not me.)
Although it wasn't particularly groundbreaking the diverse rep was something I thoroughly enjoyed even though I felt like there was something missing in this book. I just can't pinpoint exactly what it is.
But, I'd have to say my biggest issue with this book is the usage of ableist language, although I know the author probably did not intend for it to come off that way it was still a bit iffy to see a lot of those words used. Could've been way better without them.

I really wanted to love this but I was disappointed with
Girl gives up on her college dreams because of the boy
becomes depressed because of the boy
ignores her friends or becomes mean to them because of the boy
and that's why I'm taking 2 stars from my rating.
Since this is a young adult novel, it's not ok to teach teen girls just to give up on everything just because a pretty boy came to her school.

I wanted to love this book but it was.. well.. just.. okay, I guess. It was too predictable.
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
I just didn't care for this. I wasn't a fan of the narration and of Desi in general. I know this is YA (which I do usually love!) but this was definitely too young of a YA book for me. The 'list' is horrible and you know its going to blow up in her face (and it does) but then 10 pages later all is fine. There is just so much to say NO to.
This book was a cute, quick read, but unfortunately it's not very memorable. My biggest issue with this book is that I didn't feel attached to any of the characters so I was never completely invested.
Desi is too perfect for me to find relatable. She's the class president, valedictorian, in a bunch of clubs, the best soccer player, and pretty much everyone likes her. Her big flaw in this book, and what the plot is based on, is how bad she is at romantic relationships and talking to boys she likes.
My favorite parts of the book are when Desi and her dad have scenes together. Their relationship is sweet and their interactions feel a lot more genuine than the interactions between Desi and her love interest. Desi's love interest, Luca, is pretty typical - brooding, wealthy, artsy, and all the girls think he's attractive. He feels very one-dimensional to me and I'm still confused as to why Desi likes him so much. The side characters are interesting enough, but after their initial introduction, they don't have much going on besides their romantic relationships throughout the book.
This book relies heavily on Korean dramas and while it makes for an entertaining plot, some of the situations the characters get into are almost too dramatic. Plus, the fact that Desi makes the major events of a relationship in Korean dramas into a checklist at the beginning of the book, kind of tells the reader what's coming next.
Despite its flaws, this is a fun, light, insanely cheesy book, but sometimes that's what you need.
