I... still don't know how I feel about this book.
On one hand, the MC is kiiiiinda manipulative and that's not okay (+ there's only so much second-hand embarrassment I can handle) but in the end it's kinda cute. I'm confused.

Segala yg dia lakukan terkalkulasi & terencana dgn baik. Namun dia tdk pernah beruntung dalam hal berhubungan dgn cowok. Pengalamannya apabila dia menyukai cowok, segalanya berakhir buruk bahkan sebelum dimulai.
Ayahnya, seorang Korea yg pindah ke AS Bersama mendiang ibunya suka sekali nonton Kdrama.
I can relate to Desi, siswa berprestasi dgn kisah cinta gagal? Sound familiar (to me). At first I thought Desi is manipulative girl, with her Kdrama lists & architecturing her moments with Luca. Namun endingnya, walau bisa kuprediksi (khas Kdrama kan?) cukup menghiburlah. But this doesn’t mean I’m gonna watch Kdrama anytime soon…

This was such a fun, sweet, quick YA romcom read! Very relatable in terms of going way too far to get your crush to notice you. Some moments were a bit cringy, but like in a fun, high school way lol.
Easy read with romance and comedy. The book was predictable, but still fun to read. I liked that it was about Kdramas and I found some new shoes to watch thanks to this book.
Trigger warnings: death of a parent (in the past), lying, toxic relationship (in the past), medical emergency.
Okay, here's the deal: I wrote "Review to follow" on this almost exactly a month ago and then never came back to it, so my thoughts at this point are going to be pretty vague simply because I DON'T REMEMBER MOST OF IT.
Anyway. This was pretty cute, but there was also a lot of "Girl, use your words" type stuff. Like, planning out a car accident just to see if he'll come check if you're okay? That's bonkers and also very expensive for people and whyyyyyy would you do that omg. There's also a LOT of lying going on, which I didn't love.
All of that being said, the K-Drama concept was pretty stinking cute, despite how many terrible life choices were involved. The story was fast paced and I liked the characters. So. Yeah. It's probably a good next step for teens who adore To All the Boys I've Loved Before.

1.5 stars
Diversity? Pretty good. But good grief, Desi was fairly annoying. And even as jet lag reading, I wasn’t that entertained.

This was a cute romance, and it will make you want to cover your face in second-hand embarrassment every 2 pages. It was good, though; I really like seeing East Asian protagonists and the whole k-drama tie-in was a nice touch. The romance was pretty well-written and Desi's character development was great.
Where do I even start....... I knew from the very beginning that I was going to have to put up with a lot of cliches but I was ready. I love kdramas. LOVE 'EM. But Desi does get quite annoying throughout the book. But then there are some parts that redeem that, because at first, her backstory of being super smart, a bit of a weirdo, and a single parent family seemed really superficial and shallow... and then there are just one or two scenes where I felt like, she's really HER, you know? A bit more real and whole. And obv, throughout the book I was just like 'she cray'. I mean, the car accident and the swimming pool scenes??? Like. What???????? (He would probably find out she could swim in the future anyway so what's the point??)
Also I loved the kdrama mentions. Obv. Healer and Descendents of the Sun are two of my favs (the others mentioned, I've either watched or never heard of... none of them favs. Omg boys over flowers though??? I couldn't even get through the first ep it was so bad. Jeez. If anyone is reading this, and wants to get into kdramas. Do. Not. Watch. BOF.)
Love Desi's dad and her besties :)

Mostly cute and quick read.
Pro: A+ diversity (Korean American main character, lesbian best friend).
Con: A relationship based on lies, deception, dangerous stunts, and creepy stalking, which I just couldn't get behind, despite the K-drama conceit.
