Wow is all I can say. Could not put this book down. Never thought it would end like it did though!
This is my first review so please bear with me here!
I thought this book was good, but it went on entirely too long after Chase died. Yeah, the love triangle was GREAT, but she should have wound up with Chase. Once he died, she went back to the other one and the book should have ended. The end. Except it wasn't. It went on. And on. And on. And on. And don't get me wrong, it was good! It was just entirely too much.
And the other thing I noticed that kind of peeved me was that everyone was perfect. Everyone was gorgeous, and handsome, and perfect, and rich, and they had the perfect lifestyle, and they didn't have to work or wonder how they were going to put themselves through school or worry about how they were going to support a baby. And then when Liam was born he was the perfect baby too. There was no worry about a potential birth defect, like a heart murmur or a cleft palate. There was no colic. There wasn't even a hint of spit-up! Everything was PERFECT. I hate to break it to you Molly, but life isn't perfect. Give me something real. Give me someone ugly. Give me a cranky baby. Give me someone that curses or smokes or drinks until they puke. SOMETHING. ANYTHING.
All in all, first half of the book, great. Last 200 pages, kinda boring. That's why it only gets 3 stars.

This book definitely had me in full blown tears numerous times. I read the second one before the first one on accident and it took me awhile to read the first one because you are definitely thrown a curve ball at the very end. Over all I was pleased at how the ending of this book went even though my heart was still slightly broken for one of the characters. I would definitely still recommend, just make sure you have tissues handy!
I'm a sucker for these young adult love triangle stories but I always choose the opposite of how I would as a young adult. Lol in this case it didn't work out well for the guy I picked. It was a good story with likable characters and twists I didn't see coming.
Some parts were strange to me...I won't go into detail only because I don't want to spoil it for anyone if they read it. Some parts were drawn out at the end. I was a little confused why some parts were even in there. And I was very unhappy about a very emotional and very heart shattering part in the book. I wanted to stop reading right there. Good book overall, I just didn't see it twisting and turning like an emtional roller coaster when I first started reading it.
Wow. You know a book is going to stick with you long after the final words when you stay up till 230 am reading even though you know you have work at 7 am (yeah, I'm a zombie right now. I regret nothing).
To say this book was a roller coaster would be a serious understatement and probably a slap in the face to Ms. Molly McAdams. So many emotions, so much heartbreak, and so much happiness. McAdams has a way to pack every emotion known to man into her books and knows how to sucker punch you in the gut. I bawled my eyes out halfway through this book. I've cried before because of books but guys I was sobbing. My boyfriend was trying to fall asleep and asked me if I was crying and thought that he had done something to upset me! I'm not lying!
This story is a devastatingly beautiful love triangle. I'm not usually a fan of love triangles especially ones that may have the possibility of cheating involved. But I was pleasantly surprised. Throughout the whole book I was on one side of the issue and without even realizing it McAdams had me wanting something entirely different. I couldn't believe my shock halfway through the book and thought that I had clearly misunderstood and read something wrong. And my heart broke. As I preceded to sob for the next chapters. And continued to start crying at other moments of the book---that to me is the definition of a good author. Or maybe I'm too emotionally invested in books and characters (meanwhile, thank goodness I am not Harper).
The main character, Harper, is a strong independent character who definitely has her faults and some serious shortcomings. At some points I just wanted to shake her but then realized some of her thought process was probably the exact way I would be thinking. Such a strong character for everything that happens to her, whether it was her fault or not.
The only critique (and not even sure if it can be considered that) would be in McAdams' books the conflicts that occur can border on the line of being a little much. So many big and little conflicts throughout. Between the love triangle, Harper's dilemma, the plot twist, Carter, Brandon's fights, Sir, and more it can feel like way to much for one story. BUT at the same time that is what makes McAdams' style so distinct. I've read her other works Forgiving Lies, Deceiving Lies, and From Ashes. They are all heavy on the conflict but also make you feel so much emotion. I guess this critique is rooted in being too emotionally invested with the characters and really empathizing with them.
I'm excited and incredibly nervous to read Stealing Harper. NOTE: If you want to read this series READ TAKING CHANCES FIRST. If you read Stealing Haprer first then Taking Chances will be completely spoiled. I'm not sure if I am emotionally ready at this moment to read Stealing Harper. I might have to put this one off for a little while until I am emotionally ready. Cause I'm sure this one will cause the sobbing to continue.
I highly recommend this author and her other books she has written. She is incredibility talented and definitely has a way with storytelling.

Harper grew up on a Marine base with her father, who is the definition emotionally absent. Her whole life she gets up every morning to do pt with the guys, and homeschool from her dads office on the base. They hardly speak even though they live in the same house. After she graduates she goes clear across the country to start living her own life. Her new roommate Bree immediately introduces her to makeup, shopping, clothes and boys. Harper and Bree's brother have crazy chemistry but he is a manwhore and Harper doesn't want to be a notch on the bedpost. Soon after moving there she meets Brandon. ***swoon*** Brandon is perfect, P.E.R.F.E.C.T!! They quickly fall for one another, and in no time Harper has had her first date, her first kiss and they are on their way to doing the nasty! Brandon (being the perfect guy that he is) is completely comfortable to wait until they are ready, and puts absolutely no pressure on her to move any faster than she wants to. Though Harper realizes that Brandon is everything she could ever hope for, her attraction for Chase only increases as time goes by.
****Spoilers****
Harper is never ready to have sex with Brandon (did I say he was perfect?) but for some reason is ok to do it with Chase. They sleep together one weekend, and Chase tells her he loves her, and asks her to choose between them. Harper knows that Chase isn't capable of a long relationship, and stays with Brandon, vowing to make it up to him. Several weeks later she finds out she is pregnant and has to break up with Brandon. He is heartbroken, but steps aside. She waits a couple of months before even telling Chase, and then longer for becoming a couple. She doesn't want to hurt Brandon more than she already has by flaunting their relationship. Chase is amazing, swears he will take care of her, goes to the doctor appointments etc. Harper meets one of the girls that he works with, and they girl all but tells her that she will have Chase. When the girl shows up at one of Chase's parties that Harper doesn't go to she gets a bad feeling. Then he doesn't call her, and when she goes to meet him the next morning she sees the girl leaving his room. She is distraught. Chase tells her he has no idea what happened, he doesn't remember anything. Harper breaks up with Chase and he leaves in a hurry, swearing to her he loves her, and that he will find out what is going on. He never makes it to his destination, and is killed in a wreck. Harper pretty much shuts down, only to learn at the funeral that the girl drugged him, and he really didn't know what happened. After five days of refusing to get out of bed, Bree and her parents call Brandon to come talk to her. Being the perfect guy he is, he comes right away. He helps her get over the grief of losing Chase, and eventually tells her that he would love nothing more than to have her back and be a father to her baby. He promises to tell their baby about Chase, but never shows any resistance to taking on the new father role. They end up getting married and having another child.
