The best take on the Frankenstein story that I've ever come across. A unique gem.

I read 372 pages completely underwhelmed and then the last 17 pages lowkey made it all worth it

DID NOT FINISH

DNF 26%, p.102

I'd hoped this would've managed to grab me in the first hundred pages - that's a sizeable chunk of the novel it felt like I was just plodding through. Prose was clean, the premise hinted at by the description and frame narrative seemed interesting, but I don't have the urge to continue reading books that feel like they're still waiting for something to happen a full quarter of the way in.

Mediocre husband who doesn't appreciate his brilliant wife, yet society only pays him attention because of his sex. At times a very frustrating tale, but very rewarding character development for the women.

It was an alright read. Definitely a unique take on Frankenstein while making it very much its own.

while i never read frankenstein, i still found this book to be intriguing and a unique spin on an old classic.

the first half of the book was a little too slow for my liking and could have been condensed. while it was a slow burn, i felt like it was filled with too many unnecessary details. some of the science elements went over my head and only added to the confusing details.

i also wish that it could have been gayer. this was labeled as a queer/lgbtq+ book, however, there were only subtle mentions which i don’t think warrants the label.

i wish we found out the fate of the creature but i understand why we didn’t. i also don’t know who i hate more - finley clark (for obvious reasons) or henry for never supporting or defending his wife. what a weak loser

overall, this was a unique read that i enjoyed.
