After I listened the sample of this book I immediately knew I’m going to love this book!
This was an absolutely fascinating memoir of a neuroscientist who while studying brain scans of several family members, he discovered that one perfectly matched a pattern he’d found in psychopaths brains.
He discovered that it was his own brain scan.
This was a truly phenomenal book, it was entertaining and informative. I loved how the author told his story it gripped me from the very first sentence!
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about psychiatry and the human brain. I loved this book so much it definitely became my new all time favorite!

I really appreciated the nature vs nurture portion at the end. A fascinating take inside the mind of someone who is psychopathic genetically but not outwardly manifesting those traits as something society would see as a psychopath. I would be interested to know if the author’s wife wasn’t so forgiving and lenient could he have been triggered by interactions or turmoil into acting on those psychopathic traits lying underneath the surface.
The premise of this book as too intriguing not to pick up. His psychopathy is very evident and pretty shocking throughout. This book was partially a narcissistic memoir and partially science (he is a neuroscientist after all). The technical and research side of things was really enjoyable for me. However the authors ego did get a little overwhelming at times.
“In 1978 I started lecturing about the kidney and didn’t stop for 4 hours, at the end I got a standing ovation.” Mate... are you sure they weren’t applauding that you had finally stopped talking?
The science side of things definitely was overtaken by the author bragging about himself. He talks about some pretty crazy things (at least to me) in this book but he also mentions things that he will take with him to his grave and I can’t even imagine how rough those would be.
I would be almost more interested to hear from his family, friends and colleagues about knowing and living with someone like this with such an undesirable personality. This book was simultaneous highly unenjoyable yet fascinating so I have no idea what to rate it really

Did this book break my brain with all the science talk? Yes. Did it also make me question my own psychopathic tendencies? Also yes. Highly recommend for the self-deprecating jokes alone.
