Absolutely adored every moment - so good I bought it twice! That cover art is too beautiful to be hidden on my Kindle.

I've always had a fascination with the sea, and have pitied how few mermaid tales there are to enjoy. Genna tugged my heart strings. My only complaint about this haunting journey is that it ended too soon.

Water for Drowning is very well written. It is an interesting twist on an old myth and deeply emotional. Shark Shark is just plain fun.

A crass, dark romance between a musician and a fan who has delusions of being a mermaid. Very short, but a good read.

I originally heard about this story on the This is Horror podcast and thought it sounded intriguing. What a great story. Very original. Very well written. Sure, the protagonist (Josh) isn't the most likeable guy but you can't help but feel a certain amount of sympathy for him during the story. That probably has a lot to do with the writing style, the way Josh seems to be telling his story directly to the reader. It reminded me of the first-person narrative of "High Fidelity", one of my favourite stories. I would definitely recommend reading this story. Go out and get it!

Who doesn't love a good mermaid story?

Josh is the lead singer in a band, so attracting women is usually not a problem for him. One night a beautiful young woman named Genna makes a request of the band, and before you know it, Josh and Genna are a couple. Genna has some strange habits, (namely an obsession with mermaids), but despite that Josh begins to fall for her. What happens next? You'll have to read this to find out!

I won this on audio from This Is Horror by entering a Twitter giveaway. I actually bought this book back on Halloween day in 2014, (*hanging my head in shame*), I just haven't had the time to read it. Now, I'm actually glad though, because I really dug the voicing and the accent of the narrator RJ Bayley.

Not gonna lie, the main character is pretty much a jerk throughout most of this tale, but the fact that he actually fell for Genna turned me around. The denouement was haunting and left the reader to deal with their own feelings about the outcome. I will be wondering about Genna and the mermaids for some time to come, I think.

A second story titled SHARK, SHARK was included. It was twisty and funny, but WATER FOR DROWNING stole the show for me.

I highly recommend this novella length book, especially the audio version!

This was very unexpected. Sad and beautiful and so atmospheric. The main character annoyed the heck out of me at first but I'm pretty sure that was on purpose. He starts off as a horny asshole lead singer in a band and then slowly turns into someone much more likeable as he falls for this mysterious girl who is obsessed with mermaids.
Until he does something that ruins the likeability, but that was to be expected.
I loved the little details about mermaid folklore and -- Genna. How I loved Genna.
This story had under 100 pages and yet it left me haunted.
