I loved it but this book needs a trigger warning!!!! Sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, and incest!

I took off half a star because of this because I was pretty shocked when in the first 50 pages it was talking about abuse in that way! I do think the author handled the subjects pretty well, however it was very shocking and a little triggering in some parts!

I thought this was an absolutely wonderful story about the way women can start over and how they can make a life for themselves even after going through horrific events! It was so moving and genuinely heartwarming to read about the resilience of women!

Though this is a fantasy, I loved the way a lot of the book was very rooted in reality. It covered topics and events that sadly too many women had to experience and I absolutely loved reading how these women overcame it. Altha's story was less about redemption than and more about getting revenge for her friend. But I loved the way that she was able to guide the two other women centuries after her death. I loved how connected they all were, overall it was a really good book! Just a little heavy at times.

This was absolutely gut wrenching
I never was so scared when reading a book.
I could feel my insides churning and skin itching when reading this.
This book is amazing.

The only thing that took it out for me was the epilog. Really book would be much much better without it. Over explaining thing right at the end ;/

This was a gripping book! I highly recommend the audiobook book because there are different voices used for the 3 timelines that are beautifully braided together. Please check trigger warnings, as there are several heavy themes throughout the book. This is a book for those who enjoy historical fiction, a little sprinkle of magic, women's empowerment, and love to see the patriarchy get pushed back on!

I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would, given the subject matter. There are some extremely dark elements to this story and I would caution anyone thinking of reading it to please check the trigger warnings. That being said, however, for someone born and raised into households very much like Violet’s and Kate’s, feeling the pride and joy of their eventual breaking that cycle was somehow extremely cathartic. I saw myself in certain aspects, but more than that, I saw my mother in Kate, and my grandmother in Violet. The courage it takes to break the mold and start over from nothing. It’s truly inspiring, and beautiful to read about. This story about generations of abused, maligned women reaching out to each other and propping one another up through their hardships, all with this tiny element of magical realism and witchiness woven through was just fantastic.
