Another excellent re-telling by Dokey. Her characterization of Sharhrazad was clever and well thought out. I enjoyed the emphasis on the story of Sharhrazad's mother as a basis for the story, very neat idea. Dokey continues to focus on the stories of the women in the fairy tales but her men are also on a more realized quest as well. She often chooses one relationship that is always the "bad" to make good in her stories and here she does not disappoint. Another excellent installment in the "Once Upon A Time" series.

So just cause it is obvious this book is a retelling im going to point this out before I go to much into my review. I don't look at retelling and expect them to be the same has the original, I look at them has their own story. Even if that story has characters from the original it is still their own story and should never have this but the original has all this and that's why I didn't like this one cause it didn't crap. Its a retelling from someone else, if people want the original they should read the original not the retelling. With that said now outta the way there was so many aspects of this book I loved but at the same time so many I didn't which is why it got a 3 star rating and not a 4 star rating. I loved the little stories within the big story even if there was only 3. I loved the interaction between the two main character, not so much their names though cause they where to close to being the same I would get confused sometimes and have to reread a whole section just to make sure my brain had the correct one. I do believe more interaction from other character should have played out a bit more they kinda seemed rushed a tad. I did love the narration of this book to with it being told by a storyteller, telling a story with mini stories in it was kinda great and a tad confusing to start. In all this is a rather good book that I would gladly suggest to any of my friends who are into retelling but has ive started id tell them it is similar to Arabian nights but isn't also cause even with its similarities it was different completely which I loved. Things I didn't love has stated before lack of character interaction or it feeling like it was rushed. There was also spots where it seemed like things where repeating a lot and I also found it really hard to focus in some areas where people had written in the book in pen cause you can clearly see under the pen that this book hadn't been looked over correctly and there was bit added into word that weren't meant to be there or 3 words that aint meant to go there either. it just killed those areas for me cause I had to reread them a but to understand why someone had to use a pen to correct it

What an absolutely delightful story!

This book was a beautiful retelling of the classic Arabian Nights (One Thousand and One Nights). Personally, I have always struggled when reading older works, especially ancient ones that have been translated multiple times, I feel that this book is great for young or occasional readers that want to know the story of the original but finds it difficult to do so.
However, it is not a replacement of the original and is not a complete replica. The author does take the story and make it her own while maintaining the magic and the awe of the original. I felt I could understand themes and ideas of the original better from reading this.
Overall, I loved reading this story and couldn't put down this book the whole time. If you want a similar but unique story to the Arabian Nights this is the perfect book to read. I read this book because of a school project and I absolutely loved reading it and presenting this book to my class and professor.

The changing points of view paragraph by paragraph was a little hard to follow at times
